As a lifestyle expert, I must say Lacey Chabert‘s journey from playing Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls to becoming a beloved figure of the Holiday season is nothing short of remarkable. Her ability to maintain her character amidst hilarious behind-the-scenes mishaps like struggling with the Jingle Bell Rock dance sequence speaks volumes about her dedication and professionalism.
Lacey Chabert, famous for portraying Gretchen Wieners in the beloved 2004 comedy-drama Mean Girls, shared a funny story from the film’s set. Specifically, she admitted to trying very hard not to laugh and disrupt her character during the memorable Jingle Bell Rock dance sequence.
As a dedicated admirer, let me share with you a confession: Dancing hasn’t been my forte, I’ve openly admitted to People magazine. Despite my improvement over time, I can’t deny the moments when my feet would trip over the rhythm. I recall vividly, Mark Waters, an outstanding director, calling out more than once, “Cut! Lacey’s offbeat. Someone help her,” as he watched me struggle to keep pace with the dance steps.
In hindsight, her unusual dancing seemed entirely appropriate since Cady Heron (played by Lindsay Lohan) took over her initial position before the dance started. She recollected each day on set with laughter, struggling to suppress giggles and maintain composure.
At the instant Gretchen knocked the stereo from the stage, it proved most challenging for the actress to keep up her poise and expressionless demeanor. Chabert emphasized that upon careful observation, viewers might catch her on the verge of breaking character and giggling. She concluded by saying it was an incredibly amusing scene to shoot.
The dance sequence remains iconic to this day and is often used as a pop culture reference. Ariana Grande famously created a parody of that dance in her Thank You, Next music video in 2018 featuring her as one of the ‘mean girls’ and Kris Jenner as the mom desperately trying to film the performance.
Chabert may not have mastered the Jingle Bell Rock dance, but she certainly secured numerous holiday-themed projects for herself, such as her 40 Hallmark Christmas movies. “For me, Christmas Eve is a special place, when I was between 5 and 7 years old in Mississippi,” she shared with the publication. “I strive to capture that magical feeling in the films we produce today, regardless of their subject matter.
During the upcoming holiday season, she is collaborating with Russell Stover to spread joy and make other people’s Christmases brighter through their “Make Happy Memories with Russell Stover” competition. Charbert expressed her excitement about this collaboration, as it offers a chance to create fresh, memorable experiences.
