As a fervent admirer of both Marvel Studios and Beau DeMayo‘s exceptional work, I find myself deeply disheartened by this recent turn of events. Having closely followed DeMayo’s career, his contributions to Marvel’s acclaimed projects were always met with great anticipation and appreciation from fans like me.
It turns out that Beau DeMayo, the mind behind X-Men ’97, has recently been dismissed from Marvel Studios for reasons yet unknown. Five months after his exit, this creator is now speaking up to discuss the challenges he encountered during his tenure with the famous superhero series.
As a die-hard fan and admirer of Marvel Studios’ brilliant works, I was thrilled to learn that the talented artist DeMayo has been part of their esteemed team, contributing to numerous critically acclaimed projects. Just yesterday, DeMayo shared on social media that he won’t be receiving credits for the second season of the sensational Disney+ animated series we all love. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, DeMayo had already finished his work on the series prior to his departure.
During his discussion about his time at the studio, the creator also offered additional insights. DeMayo recently reshared an X-Men fan artwork on Instagram, mentioning that it was originally posted during the LGBTQ+ Pride Month in June of this year.
Afterwards, Marvel Studios notified DeMayo that they would be removing his credit for X-Men ’97 Season 2, which he himself announced on social media platform X on August 15th.
In the fan art, it can be figured out that it is DeMayo himself, in a shirtless version of the X-Men member Cyclops.
In his subsequent remarks, he expressed that regrettably, the current situation is part of an unsettling series of events he encountered during his work on #XMen97 and #Blade.
In various endeavors, Beau DeMayo has been involved – from sketching outlines for ‘Blade’, to working on ‘The Oscar Isaac’ series featuring Moon Knight, and revising ‘X-Men ’97’.
After a significant disclosure, a representative from Marvel clarified that Beau DeMayo’s departure occurred in March of the current year, following a thorough internal examination.
The statement goes on to say that the studio cut ties with DeMayo because of the “seriously problematic results” and that there is no longer any association between the creator and Marvel Studios.
According to sources, there was a mutual understanding between the parties regarding the sharing of the show on social media during DeMayo’s departure. Nevertheless, DeMayo persisted in doing so, resulting in the removal of his credits from season two of X-Men ’97, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Sources have even mentioned that Beau DeMayo’s termination involved sexual misconduct.
1997’s X-Men series was widely loved by fans and proved to be a big success. The news of its upcoming second season came at the 2024 D23 Expo, with Matthew Chauncey joining the cast after DeMayo’s departure.
