Disney unveiled the initial trailer for the upcoming movie, Tron: Ares, which marks the third film in the Tron series. This intriguing sci-fi continuation is scheduled to be released globally on October 10, 2025. Jared Leto plays Ares, a potent character from the digital Grid who breaks new ground by entering the real world – a first for the franchise. Guided by director Joachim Rønning, Tron: Ares further develops the universe introduced in the 1982 original and its 2010 sequel, Tron: Legacy.
The preview suggests a confrontation between humans and artificial intelligence, featuring stunning imagery courtesy of Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and an intense soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails. Significantly, Jeff Bridges reprises his role as Kevin Flynn, the iconic inventor of the Grid who disappeared in Tron: Legacy.
Here’s what the Tron: Ares trailer reveals

In this new storyline, Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto portrays Ares, who is depicted as a figure bathed in red light, stepping into our reality. The movie revolves around “a highly advanced AI program named Ares, who is dispatched from the digital realm to the real world for a perilous assignment, marking the initial human-AI interaction,” as described by the official summary.
The character Julian Dillinger, played by Evan Peters, in the trailer says something noteworthy: ‘There’s a lot of chatter about AI and technology nowadays. What will virtual realms become? When can we expect to see them? They are on their way to us.’
Nine Inch Nails’ new music and soundtrack
In addition to releasing a new trailer, Nine Inch Nails has also debuted a fresh single called “As Alive As You Need Me to Be.” This is their first music release in five years and it’s now up for grabs through Interscope Records. The track, jointly produced by Boys Noize, heads the Tron: Ares soundtrack, which is slated to be released on September 19, 2025.
The entire soundtrack for Tron: Ares is created by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, two acclaimed musicians who have won Grammys and Oscars for their hauntingly atmospheric compositions. The trailer hints that the music will significantly contribute to the movie’s mood and overall vibe.
Jeff Bridges once more takes on Kevin Flynn, the pioneering computer engineer who was last seen stuck within the Grid. His reappearance helps maintain consistency across the enduring series. Additionally, the ensemble features Jodis Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Gillian Anderson, and Evan Peters, infusing the Tron universe with new vigor.
