‘Tron: Ares’ Receives Awkward Reception as Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Revealed

The newest Tron movie, Tron: Ares, has received a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the second best-reviewed film in the entire Tron series.

Scheduled for release in 2025, this new science fiction action movie continues the story of *Tron: Legacy* but can be enjoyed on its own. The film boasts a talented cast, including Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Gillian Anderson. Jeff Bridges will also make a short appearance as his character Kevin Flynn.

Joachim Rønning directed the film, with a script by Jesse Wigutow that was developed from a story by Wigutow and David Digilio.

Tron: Ares had its first showing in Los Angeles on October 6th and will be available to audiences across the United States on October 10th, released by Walt Disney Studios. Reviews from critics have been varied, with many highlighting the film’s impressive visuals, its futuristic, cyberpunk style, and the energetic, modern score created by Nine Inch Nails, which they say revitalizes the Tron series. Several critics also enjoyed the action and the film’s ambitious attempt to build upon the existing Tron world.

Look, “Tron: Ares” isn’t perfect, but I have to say, it really revitalizes the franchise. It’s got this fantastic, gritty, industrial vibe, and a huge part of that is Nine Inch Nails’ score – it’s absolutely driving and propels the whole thing forward. It feels like a bold new direction for “Tron”.

The movie is beautiful to look at and definitely keeps you entertained. However, I didn’t quite connect with the characters as much as I’d hoped.

Director Joachim Rønning, known for “Young Woman and the Sea,” now helms the series, adding thrilling action sequences and a dynamic Nine Inch Nails soundtrack that perfectly matches the film’s emotional moments to the core story of AI being used for good or ill.

Despite the positive feedback, reviewers also noted some problems with the story. Many felt the plot wasn’t very strong and the conversations between characters were dull.

Viewers had mixed reactions to the film. Some thought it prioritized impressive visuals and music over developing its characters. While Jeff Bridges’ cameo was appreciated, many wished it had been longer. Additionally, some felt the story was too similar to other science fiction series, lacking a unique vision.

TRON: ARES looks fantastic, but it’s largely a style-over-substance cyberpunk experience, borrowing heavily from other works and featuring a strong soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails.

This sci-fi action thriller is draining, overly flashy, and ultimately boring. It feels more like a drawn-out music video than a real movie.

Tron: Ares boasts impressive visual effects, but the script suffers from weak dialogue and feels heavily inspired by the Terminator movies. The actors are stuck trying to make the most of it, and Jeff Bridges makes a brief appearance, essentially reprising his role as The Dude in a futuristic outfit.

Okay, fellow movie lovers, get ready! The world of *Tron* is about to get a whole lot bigger – they’re saying the visual experience has been expanded to a 1.90 aspect ratio, and it’s been filmed specifically for IMAX! I just saw that tickets are available *now* for early access screenings of *Tron: Ares* on October 8th. Plus, if you’re a real fan, they’re doing a *Tron* IMAX double feature that same day! And of course, the official opening weekend kicks off October 10th. Seriously, this is going to be huge!

Tron: Ares is a visually impressive film with a great soundtrack, but its story and characters aren’t as well-developed as they could be. While it successfully updates the Tron universe with a modern, gritty, cyberpunk style, it may not fully satisfy fans looking for a compelling narrative.
