As a passionate film aficionado, I couldn’t help but feel my heart pounding when I unexpectedly encountered Tricia Helfer in the hotel elevator at Comic-Con! To make things even more exhilarating, she was there to promote her latest project – a mind-blowing sci-fi war thriller titled “Primitive War”. Set in the dense jungles of Vietnam, this movie features an intriguing premise where soldiers must face off against terrifying dinosaurs. Don’t miss out on the trailer below!
As a movie enthusiast, let me share an interesting anecdote: The other day, one of my friends happened to be riding an elevator, and guess who was descending? None other than Tricia Helfer and her entourage, presumably on their way to their Comic-Con panel. Quite the coincidence!
As a die-hard movie fan, let me tell you, I was blown away when none other than Tricia Helfer, renowned for her stellar roles in ‘Battlestar: Galactica’ and ‘Lucifer’, made an appearance. The crowd erupted as she flashed that captivating smile of hers, and the buzz around her didn’t die down even after she left the stage.
It’s pretty cool and goes to show you what can happen at Comic-Con.
Primitive War Hits Theaters This August
The movie titled “Primitive War” is scheduled to premiere in theaters in the U.S. and Australia on August 21, 2025, with a global release to follow shortly afterward. This film is an adaptation of Ethan Pettus’ popular novel and is directed by Luke Sparke, who has previously worked on “Occupation.” The storyline revolves around a military reconnaissance unit dispatched in 1968 to find a missing Green Beret platoon, but they stumble upon something ancient and terrifying hidden deep within the jungle.
This film combines intense battle scenes from the military with terrifying dinosaur chaos, similar to a mix of “Predator” and “Jurassic Park,” but it carries a grave, suspenseful atmosphere that’s closer to survival horror rather than typical science fiction.

Helfer Plays a Lone Paleontologist
In a YouTube interview on Rama’s Screen, Helfer revealed that she portrays Sophia Wagner, a paleontologist who’s spent almost a year in the jungle all by herself following an unfortunate incident involving dinosaurs. Later, she encounters the Vulture Squad and joins forces with them as they unearth the dangerous secrets hidden within the jungle.
The film was characterized by Helfer as a war movie with dinosaurs, but not your typical science fiction. She likened it more to ‘Predator’ or ‘Kong: Skull Island’, pointing out that though there are no extraterrestrials, the peril is palpable and ravenous. In other words, it’s a war movie with dinosaurs, not your usual sci-fi, but with a real and menacing danger.
“A Good Group of People”
Additionally, Helper mentioned that the cast developed a strong bond on set, going so far as to establish a WhatsApp group chat which they still utilize a year following the completion of filming. “They graciously welcomed me among them,” she said about her fellow actors. “As soon as filming began… we truly transformed into a united team.
When questioned about her preferred dinosaur, Helfer chose the “Deinonychus”, referring to them as “the smaller ones, but they’re feisty”. She further mentioned, “The T-Rex is indeed imposing, but I have a soft spot for Deinonychus.
