As a lifelong fan of the Transformers franchise, I can hardly contain my excitement as I gear up for the release of Transformers One! Having grown up with Optimus Prime and Megatron, it’s a dream come true to see Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry breathe life into these iconic characters. The trailer alone has left me on the edge of my seat, eagerly awaiting the intense showdown between the once inseparable friends.
Prepare to return to Cybertron, as Paramount has unveiled the final trailer for Transformers: One, which stars Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime and Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron. This latest preview offers a clearer look into the backstory of Orion Pax and D-16, two brothers-in-arms who eventually transform into the legendary adversaries Optimus Prime and Megatron.
Nevertheless, the trailer suggests a growing rift between previously unbreakable friends as Megatron threatens Optimus Prime: “You had better get out of my path, or I will make you leave myself.” This ominous exchange foreshadows a gripping confrontation. The upcoming film, helmed by director Josh Cooley, renowned for his work on Toy Story 4 and Inside Out, and written by Eric Pearson, is poised to steer the cherished animated series into uncharted territory.
As an over-the-moon fanboy, I’ve been eagerly waiting for any news about the Transformers franchise, and boy, have Cooley and Lorenzo di Bonaventura delivered! In a chat with Screen Rant, they shared their vision, hinted at a potential sequel, and more. When I asked if Transformers One is a prequel to the latest releases Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts or something completely new, they made it clear that it’s a standalone film that dives deep into the origins of our beloved icons. Can’t wait to see where this journey takes us!
Bonaventura made it clear that it is indeed a prequel, since the foundation material has been around for quite some time. He further explained, “However, we’re delving into the lore about where it all begins.” In other words, we’re exploring the origins, the very start of the beloved thing we all cherish.
In contrast to this, Cooley suggested an innovative narrative style for the upcoming Transformers movie, revealing that it would present multiple interpretations of the cherished Transformers. He expressed his intrigue with the unexpectedly personal history of these characters and found great pleasure in delving into their backstory for the film. ‘This is the most human tale we’ve ever spun with these characters,’ he remarked, ‘which is what I relished the chance to explore.’
As a die-hard fan, I can barely contain my excitement as Bonaventura dropped hints about a mind-blowing crossover between Transformers and G.I. Joe! This potential collaboration could completely reshape the universe I adore. He revealed that if this project takes off, they have plans to broaden this amazing world, possibly merging it with the G.I. Joe universe. In his words, “We’ve already got, I believe, the foundations of a truly captivating story for the sequel, which will continue the character-driven approach that made the first one so special.
Mark your calendars, as Transformers One is set to hit theaters on September 20.
