Netflix is all set to debut a fresh Canadian miniseries titled “Wayward” on September 25, 2025. This captivating series has been masterfully crafted by Mae Martin and will make its initial appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival before streaming on our platform.

In this tale, the setting is a seemingly pleasant small town, yet beneath its tranquil facade, it harbors some extremely ominous mysteries.

The heart of the story revolves around Tall Pines Academy, an institution touted for assisting troubled adolescents. In the initial preview, Toni Collette‘s character, Evelyn Wade, extends a welcoming assurance of tranquility and calmness at the academy to everyone.

However, as her speech unfolds, we gradually uncover the reality – the camp appears to be something other than it initially seemed, and hidden within its confines lies a much darker secret.

Step through this door, and you’ll find a world that defies expectation, as portrayed by the exceptional talents of Mae Martin and Toni Collette in the intriguing new miniseries, WAYWARD. Catch its premiere on September 25th.

In the show, it’s actress Mae Martin who portrays Alex Dempsey, a police officer who has returned to town with his pregnant spouse Laura, played by Sarah Gadon. They seek a fresh start, but their new life becomes anything but ordinary when enigmas hidden within Tall Pines begin to unveil themselves.

Besides Sydney Topliffe, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Brandon Jay McLaren, Tattiawa Jones, Isolde Ardies, Joshua Close, Patrick J. Adams, Patrick Gallagher, Gage Munroe, and Byron Mann, the series features Toni Collette portraying Evelyn, whose character seems to bring a chilling presence to the show.

The production of this series started back in April 2023, following Netflix’s decision to commission an eight-episode dramatic series from Mae Martin. In addition to starring in the show, Mae Martin is also responsible for running the show and serving as executive producer, sharing this role with Ryan Scott.

As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to appreciate the collaborative masterpiece that originates from the combined forces of Objective Fiction, based in both London and Los Angeles, and Sphere Media in Canada. Alongside these visionaries, esteemed executive producers like Ben Farrell, Hannah Mackay, Jennifer Kawaja, and Bruno Dubé have also played significant roles in bringing this production to life.

Initially discussing the series, Martin emphasized its significance, expressing that it’s a tale they’ve been eager to share for quite some time, referring to it as something they’ve been yearning to narrate for years. The original name of the show was Tall Pines, but later it was renamed to Wayward.
