[Trailer] Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw and TIFF to Showcase New Horror Shorts at Festival

Preparing for a thrilling shift, the Toronto International Film Festival is set to welcome a fresh surge of horror films. On Saturday evening, five short horror films from the pioneering filmmakers under Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and TIFF’s No Drama initiative will be making their debut on the global stage for the very first time.

These films – “Imago”, “Morty”, “Spilled Milk”, “Thick Skin”, and “The Pigs Underneath” – were produced during a one-year initiative jointly designed by Monkeypaw Productions, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and Universal Filmed Entertainment Group.

The purpose of this initiative was to provide fresh directors with an opportunity to develop experimental horror projects that examine various perspectives, such as cultural, historical, and societal aspects, from unique viewpoints.

Filmmakers were prompted to ponder over this thought: “Can you share what scares you most deeply, and what hidden fears reside in the darkest recesses of your mind?”

The new sentence retains the original meaning but is written in a more conversational and engaging tone.

Five talented writer-directors, namely Chandler Crump, Charlie Dennis, Helena Hawkes, Jared Leaf, and Ariel Zengotita, were each given $50,000 grants by TIFF to turn their ideas into reality. Their films will make their premieres at 6:30 p.m., showing in Cinema 1 at TIFF Lightbox.

As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that over the past year, we’ve had the privilege of nurturing five budding filmmakers through our ‘No Drama’ program. Now, we can’t wait to premiere these heartfelt creations at TIFF and witness their promising futures unfold!

At the upcoming event, Peele will deliver an introductory speech, joining Universal Pictures president Peter Cramer and TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey on stage. Following the movie’s screening, the filmmakers are expected to engage in a Q&A discussion facilitated by Jacqueline Coley from Rotten Tomatoes.

Cramer remarked, “Jordan and his Monkeypaw team have revolutionized genre filmmaking by breaking traditions and expanding limits. Their ‘No Drama’ program offers five emerging filmmakers an opportunity to learn, showcase, and grow their innovative projects in collaboration with TIFF, a platform that has launched numerous successful filmmakers over the years.

This brief mentions that the shorts showcase talents from Scott Mescudi, Brandon Perea, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Keyla Monterroso Mejia. Moreover, a trailer offering glimpses of each of these five ventures has been unveiled.

A number of leading companies in the industry collaborated with Monkeypaw and TIFF to aid in film production. Panavision contributed camera equipment, Sony offered their latest camera technology for the movie ‘Spilled Milk’, Cooke Optics supplied lenses for ‘Imago’, and MBS Equipment Company provided lighting and grip equipment for various films.

As part of our collaborative team, Mathmatic Film, Company 3, Signature Post, and Format each brought their unique talents to the project. They provided top-notch visual effects, sound design, original music, and post-production services respectively.

Tickets for the showcase are now on sale.
