At the Annecy Animation Film Festival, Pixar showcased an upcoming installment, titled Toy Story 5. They presented fresh clips, confirmed the return of the original voice cast, and offered a retrospective on the 30-year history of this beloved franchise.
Plot and Returning Cast
Pixar’s Pete Docter revealed that Toy Story 5 will focus on eight-year-old Bonnie and her new toy tablet, which doesn’t sit well with the other toys. Nicknamed “Toys and Technology,” the film finds Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and their friends confronting a fresh danger to playtime: a smart device.
Once again, we see the principal characters reunite, with Tom Hanks resuming his role as Woody, Tim Allen stepping into Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack bringing Jessie back to life.
Pixar also teased new characters, including Conan O’Brien’s recently announced Smarty Pants.
Clip shows off Toy Story 5 opening
A brief, unique sneak peek at the opening scene of Toy Story 5 was unveiled only for the Annecy audience. It depicted a delivery of Buzz Lightyear action figures crashing onto an isolated island. The Buzz figurines joined forces to construct a raft and endeavored to navigate back to Star Command.

Additionally, Dr. also commemorated the 30th anniversary of Toy Story by disclosing uncommon behind-the-scenes clips from the original 1995 movie. As the chief animator for the first Toy Story, he provided a retrospective glimpse at how the franchise played a pivotal role in catapulting Pixar to fame and transformed animated filmmaking.
