Total War has just delivered its strongest quarter in years despite content drought

This year marks a significant milestone for Creative Assembly’s Total War series, as it turns 25 years old. In addition, the developer plans to unveil several new installments in the Total War series during December, offering insights into the future direction of the franchise. However, the year has been relatively quiet in terms of actual content releases, following a delay in the launch of Tides of Torment, the upcoming DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3.

In spite of the ongoing drought, Total War has managed to achieve its best sales quarter in years as per SEGA’s recent financial report. The series reportedly sold 910,000 copies from April 1 to June 30, 2025. This is a significant increase of 600,000 units compared to two years ago and an additional 380,000 units when compared to the previous year’s sales for the same time period.

Among all the quarters over the past two years, the third quarter of FY2025 stands out as the one with the highest sales figure (770,000 copies), placing it as a strong contender and currently holding the second position.

In the past quarter, SEGA’s franchise lineup saw Persona take the lead with 1 million sales, closely followed by Total War in second place. Sales for Sonic came in third with 770,000 units sold, while Like a Dragon trailed behind with 690,000 sales.

In the previous quarter, Sega found that it sold fewer repeated copies of its catalog than anticipated, yet the Total War series surpassed its typical sales figures significantly, demonstrating the series’ worth and longevity during a period with limited new releases.

Regrettably, Total War fans were left in the dark as SEGA failed to disclose any exciting news or future plans regarding the series. Therefore, the community must remain patient and continue to look towards Creative Assembly for updates.

Warhammer 3 – Tides of Torment will introduce characters such as Dechala, Sayl, and Aislinn into the battlefield, strengthening the forces of Slaanesh Daemons, Norscans, and High Elves towards the end of this year.
