50. Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck

Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck, often referred to as Nell, was once the Third Espada. She used to be an Adjuchas and now sports a mask resting on her forehead with a noticeable split. Her hair boasts a vibrant green hue, while her eyes are a rich brown. Upon her debut, she presents as a young child, forming a bond with Ichigo, whom she affectionately calls “Itsugo”.

Previously, she had been the Third Espada; two years prior, a coordinated attack involving Nnoitra (then no 8) and Szayelaporro Grantz occurred. In this assault, Nnoitra and Grantz conspired to ambush her, shattering her mask in the process, compelling her to adopt her current appearance. As a result of this incident, she was expelled from Las Noches along with her subordinates, Pesche Gatiche and Dondochakka Willson – individuals she considers as her brothers.

49. Rias Gremory

Franchise: High School DxD

She’s known as the high school equivalent of Madonna, Issei’s romantic partner, and a woman who commands unbridled admiration from all. However, her real identity is that of Princess Crimson-Haired Ruin, an heiress to one of the most powerful demon dynasties, the Gremory.

In an official capacity, she’s a student exchange participant from Japan to high school, but in reality, she holds the position of president for the occult research club, effectively acting as a sanctuary for demons following her commands. Her role is akin to that of a chess king, orchestrating the moves of the pieces under her control; Issei happens to be one of them.

As a cinephile, I can’t help but describe this character as nearly indestructible. She has a knack for grasping the immense power hidden within Issei, which naturally piques her curiosity about him. Interestingly enough, his sibling is none other than one of the Demon Kings, Lord Sirzerch.

They both have the capability to demolish things, and an amazing knack for reducing any objective into fine powder. She brings Issei back to life as her servant following his death at the hands of a fallen angel, who also happened to carry a unique Sacred Artifact.

48. Rika Nonaka

Prior to her demise, she resided in the 11th ward but later shifted to the 20th ward six months before her death. At the onset of the series, Rize targets Ken Kaneki, a student who harbored affection for her. In order to feed upon him, she manipulates Ken and subsequently attacks him. During this attack, Rize is struck by falling debris and perishes.

46. Shinobu Kochō

Franchise: Demon Slayer

Currently, she holds the leading role within “The Insect,” taking over from her late elder sister. With a calm demeanor and constant smile, she navigates through any circumstance life throws at her. She has a knack for playful banter and advocates for peaceful coexistence between demons and humans. However, when it comes to dealing with demons, she acts decisively, showing no regret or hesitation. Initially moved by Nezuko’s demonic transformation, she later proposes a painless death for her using poison.

Later on, she expressed empathy towards Nezuko and Tanjiro following their narrative. Its blade, distinct due to its diminutive size and one-of-a-kind nature, is the only slayer’s weapon inappropriate for slicing. Instead, it possesses a sharp tip that’s been coated with poison derived from wisteria, a method designed specifically for it to neutralize demons by pricking them rather than slashing.

45. Elizabeth Lioness

Franchise: Seven Deadly Sins

Elizabeth, often referred to as Princess, is the third princess in the kingdom of Liones who was adopted. She’s one of the primary characters in the storyline, rumored to be a survivor from the fallen kingdom of Danafor. Prior to her quest to reformation, she worked as a waitress at the Boar Hat Tavern. Along her journey with the Seven Deadly Sins, she has proven to be an essential member and healer.

Initially 8 years old in the first season, she grows older, reaching 11 by the second season.

43. Ochaco Uraraka

Franchise: My Hero Academia

A vibrant, straightforward girl, much like Midoriya and Bakugo in terms of academic standing (1-A), showcases a cheerful demeanor typically, but harbors an unyielding ambition to become an exceptional heroine. Her Quirk, dubbed Zero Gravity, enables her to nullify the force of gravity on any object she touches with pads located at the ends of her fingertips’ joints, and has the ability to control this power as needed. In addition, by assuming a specific hand position, she can even levitate herself free from gravity’s grasp.

42. Eto Yoshimura

Franchise: Tokyo Ghoul

Born from the marriage between ghoul Kuzen Yoshimura and human Ukina, a journalist uncovering the “V” organization’s secrets, Eto was a unique one-eyed being. It’s also noteworthy that Brock frequently develops feelings for these nurses.

40. Yamato

Franchise: One Piece

Yamato is the child of one of the Four Emperors, Kaidou. From a tender age, she was groomed to succeed Kaidou. However, rather than embracing this destiny, Yamato cultivated an immense respect for the samurai Kozuki Oden following his passing. In a unique twist, Yamato chose to emulate Oden by posing as him and adopting his mannerisms. Now, she often refers to herself as Kaidou’s son, and even Kaidou and his crew address her in the same way.

39. Riza Hawkeye

Franchise: Fullmetal Alchemist

Riza is Mustang’s alchemist’s daughter, who was given to the future Alchemist Leader upon her death. Her role is complex – she guards the colonel for his mission success but he told her to kill him if he oversteps certain lines. A big tattoo decorates most of her back.

Riza has some secret alchemy notes left by her father, which he didn’t have time to pass on to his apprentice before he died. She plans to give these notes to Mustang so he can master the art of Flame Alchemy. After the Ishbal War, she requested that Mustang remove her alchemical tattoo, not just to prevent a new Flame Alchemist from emerging, but also for other reasons.

38. Ai Haibara

Franchise: Detective Conan

Originally known as Shiho Miyano, this character is also recognized by her code name, Sherry. She developed the lethal substance APTX 4869, which Conan consumed. After her sibling Akemi Miyano passed away, she declined to proceed with her research and was incarcerated. To evade further confinement, she used the poison on herself and sought sanctuary with Professor Agasa, adopting the alias Ai Haibara in the process. The organization served as her sole family, with her sister being a crucial part of it; in fact, her parents perished when she was still young. Ai Haibara spent her childhood in America along with her sister.

In the original version, Sora’s companion Digimon is Biyomon, and her symbol represents Love. Sora is 10 years old in the initial storyline. She is close friends with Tai Kamiya and shares a passion for soccer. Despite her tomboyish nature, she takes charge of her own safety due to Tai’s lack of caution. Sora serves as the voice of reason among the DigiDestined group. Being a tomboy sometimes caused issues with her strict mother who encouraged her to quit football in favor of learning floral art. Fortunately, Biyomon helped mend Sora’s relationship with her mother. Sora’s father is usually not around.

In the original story, Sora’s Digimon partner is Biyomon, and her symbol signifies Love. Sora is 10 years old in the base narrative. She is friends with Tai Kamiya and enjoys playing soccer together. As a tomboy, she takes care of her own safety due to Tai’s carelessness. Sora acts as the voice of reason within the group of DigiDestined. Her tomboyish personality occasionally led to disagreements with her stern mother who suggested that Sora give up football for floral art studies. However, Biyomon helped resolve the issue between Sora and her mother. Sora’s father is seldom present.

36. Nefertari Vivi

Franchise: One Piece

As a movie reviewer, I’d say: In the heartwarming tale I recently watched, the protagonist Nefertari Vivi, daughter of Cobra, graces the screen as the noble Princess of Alabasta. Unlike many princesses in fairy tales, she doesn’t let her royal status cloud her judgment or make her act arrogantly. Instead, she demonstrates a profound concern for her subjects and her nation, willing to risk her own life to ensure their well-being. It’s refreshing to see such a selfless character take center stage in this captivating story.

In battle, she employs a dance known as Mermaidance, designed to bewitch or captivate adversaries. However, in the anime, this dance is substituted by a fragrance that achieves the same result. Her armaments consist of two sharp gems connected to a wire and her fingers adorned with rings; when these are spun rapidly, they form a cutting weapon called the Peacock Slasher.

35. Rem and Ram

Franchise: Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World

Erm is a female version of the Japanese oni, characterized by blue hair and eyes, and serves alongside her younger sister Ram at the Roswaal Manor. Unlike her sister, who is less skilled and reluctant in her duties, Erm excels in chores and cooking.

Ram, too, is an oni, but she’s a female one with pink hair and eyes. She’s the older twin of Rem and works as a servant at Roswaal mansion alongside her sister. Unfortunately, she doesn’t excel in household tasks or cooking like Rem does. Rem is more skilled and eager to work, while Ram comes across as more aloof and reserved compared to her sister.

34. Asuka Langley Soryu

Franchise: Neon Genesis Evangelion

In the role of Child Unit 09, Asuka took control of EVA-02. Born to Kyôko Langley Zeppelin and an unidentified father, she carries a mixed heritage: one-fourth American, one-quarter German, and one-quarter Japanese. Raised in Germany, she completed her university education at the age of 14. Asuka is a self-assured, independent young woman who tends to look down on others and craves attention.

33. Nezuko Kamado

Franchise: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Nezuko was exceptionally considerate and selfless while she was human, always putting others before herself. Now, as a Demon, it appears she’s lost most memories of her human life, save for those concerning her family. Yet, she remains deeply caring and protective towards her perceived family members, largely influenced by Sakonji Urokodaki during the two years she was asleep.

In a slightly different wording,

Nezuko maintains some human-like feelings, evident when she weeps in sorrow and grins in joy, yet her emotional expression appears subdued compared to humans. Despite this, she remains more tranquil and less malevolent than most demons. Following her transformation into a demon, Nezuko has shown no fear in combat: she valiantly stands by her brother and comrades on the battlefield.

32. Akane Tsunemori

Franchise: Psycho-Pass

A 20-year-old woman, both a rookie inspector in Division 1 and an admired figure, is known for two remarkable qualities: firstly, her exceptionally low Psycho-Pass, which makes her a model citizen; secondly, her maximum qualifying score that grants her the flexibility to assume any role. She chose a career in the police force as she was the only one who had scored so high for this specific position.

Despite others achieving comparable results in significant tasks, she believes that she’s uniquely suited for this role, as it offers her a chance to grasp the reason behind her being.

31. Bulma

Franchise: Dragon Ball

As a dedicated movie buff, I’d put it this way: In the story, I play the role of Bulma, a clever yet headstrong girl. Initially, I design the Dragon Radar to track down the elusive dragon balls. Being their maker, it’s only natural that I embark on this quest. Along the way, I cross paths with a powerhouse named Goku. His strength leaves me in awe, and I manage to persuade him to team up with me in my pursuit.

In the series, Vegeta becomes Bulma’s husband, and together they have two kids. Throughout the story, Bulma is renowned for her technical prowess and inventive mind. Her character draws inspiration from the princess in the Dragon Boy manga and the monk Sanzang, a key figure in The Journey to the West tale.

30. Inori Yuzuriha

Franchise: Guilty Crown

The vocalist of the EGOIST band is actually part of another musical collective. In a mission to pass on the Void Genome to Gai, she was wounded. Instead of keeping it for herself, she chose to give it to Ouma. It’s revealed later that she spends around two or three nights each month with Gai.

The Void functions like a shielding sword, enabling its wielder to construct defensive barriers against attacks aimed at it or connected platforms. It’s also revealed that she is an artifact designed to contain Eve’s spirit (Mana Ouma) and revive her during the Fourth Apocalypse.

In my role as a devoted follower, I’d then link with my chosen Adam, intending to disseminate the Apocalypse virus globally to usher in a novel human race. However, this endeavor crumbles as Gai and Shū thwart the coding of the Apocalypse Virus. As for Shū, he ascends as the quorum’s new president, and I pledge my allegiance and backing to him, holding faith in his leadership, even amidst adversity.

29. C.C.

Franchise: Code Geass

As a dedicated movie buff, I must confess that there’s a certain enigmatic figure named C.C. who has intrigued me for quite some time. Though her significance in history is undeniable and her connection to the British military is clear, her personal life remains shrouded in mystery. It was Clovis who oversaw the research related to her. On a fateful day when I encountered her, C.C. made an agreement with me that bound us together, allowing her to keep tabs on our actions. Moreover, she has proven instrumental in rescuing Zero on multiple occasions.

Calmly composed and indifferent to surprises or emotions, she regards Lelouch as a somewhat interchangeable ally, primarily existing to fulfill her most cherished desire. Her past is revealed: born several centuries ago, she was a destitute child who lived as a roadside slave. Enduring physical abuse and degradation throughout her journey, she resorted to begging and offering her services to those who desired them.

In my tale, I found refuge under the wing of a benevolent sister, the last guardian of an ancient code, which bestowed upon her eternal life and the power to pass on the throne’s might, known as Geass. Among her many powers, she possessed one unique gift – the ability to make herself loved by all, for it was my protector, C.C., whose deepest desire this was.

28. Ponyo

Franchise: Ponyo (Studio Ghibli)

The primary character in the Studio Ghibli movie “Ponyo,” directed by Hayao Miyazaki, goes by the name Ponyo but was originally known as Brunhilde. Her parents are Guranmanmare and Fujimoto. Known for her lively and inquisitive nature, she often finds herself exploring new places. Furthermore, she demonstrates kindness by using her magical abilities to aid those around her.

Instead of following in her father Fujimoto’s footsteps by being aloof around people, she prefers to establish friendships. However, she dislikes listening to her father and expresses this displeasure either by frowning or acting dismissively towards him. When he tries to take her to her mother, she shows resistance by avoiding him. Conversely, Sousuke easily forms a bond with Ponyo.

This version maintains the original meaning while using more natural and easy-to-understand language.

Lisa doesn’t find it odd that the goldfish has a human-like face, just like her siblings do. In fact, she trusts them completely. Her preferred food is ham, so she always starts with that and saves the rest of the sandwich for later. She entertains children in unusual ways, as shown by the baby’s smile.

27. Tsunade

Franchise: Naruto

As a seasoned movie critic, I’d rephrase it this way: Stepping into the role of Konoha’s fifth Hokage, Tsunade’s visage now graces the hallowed “Hokage wall.” In time, she takes on Sakura Haruno as her apprentice, imparting to her the intricacies of medical ninjutsu and the secret behind her extraordinary power. Over our shared journey, Sakura adopts not just Tsunade’s skills but also her fiery spirit – a trait that leaves even Naruto, Jiraiya, and Kakashi more than a little intimidated at times.

Additionally, Ino Yamanaka joins as a student under his tutelage to master medical ninjutsu. She calls upon slimy creatures to safeguard the villagers and ninjas during Pain’s assault, utilizing her vast chakra reserves for healing the injured ninjas and villagers. Facing Shurado, who is infamous as Jiraiya’s killer, and drained of all her chakra while defending Konoha, she was on the verge of defeat. However, Naruto intervened and swiftly destroyed Pain’s mechanical form. In a kind gesture, he invited her to have tea and rest.

After overindulging on chakra, she ended the battle unconscious and is now unable to fulfill her duties as Hokage. As Kakashi is about to be named the new Hokage following Danzo’s demise, Gai interrupts to declare that Tsunade has regained consciousness.

26. Hinata Hyūga

Franchise: Naruto

Originating from Konoha Village and hailing from the Hyūga family, Hinata is a female ninja. Similar to Kiba Inuzuka and Shino Aburame, she is part of Team 8, led by Kurenai Yūhi. Unlike many other children, her childhood was marked by rigorous training due to being the heir to the clan. With her father as her mentor, she successfully completed this demanding task.

25. Emma

Franchise: The Promised Neverland

The leading figure in “The Promised Neverland” possesses exceptional physical and intellectual capabilities. Among the trio, she consistently scores a perfect 300 on daily tests. Despite the rules forbidding it, she encourages Norman to accompany her to the restricted area beyond the orphanage’s portal, where they ultimately uncover a shocking truth.

24. Rei Ayanami

Franchise: Neon Genesis Evangelion

Designated as the pilot for EVA-0017, known as First Children 9, her birth date remains undisclosed. Characterized as an introverted, quiet, and shy girl, Rei Ayanami is often described by Hideaki Anno as a young woman who acknowledges that in the event of her demise, someone else will take her place, thus not placing significant value on her own life.

As per Anno’s description, her apparent existence seems transient. She is a young girl who appears to be quite sad. She feels she doesn’t require companionship, implying she lives in isolation or loneliness.

Tōka Kirishima, once a waitress at the Antiquity, is now a ghoul. In battle, she dons a mask that looks like a white rabbit’s head, which has earned her the nickname “Rabbit.” At the beginning of the storyline, she is a third-year student attending Kiyomi High School.

Assisted by Hinami Fueguchi, she ended up killing Inspector Kureo Mado following their clash in the 11th arrondissement and Ken Kaneki’s departure from Antiquity. Yet, eventually, that reason fades and she chooses to join Ash in Kanto, Johto, and the Orange Archipelago to refine her skills and aspire to become a master of Water-type Pokémon.

Franchise: When Marnie Was There (Studio Ghibli)

In the movie titled “When Marnie Was There,” which was helmed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, Marnie serves as the central character. She is depicted as Emily’s mother and Kazuhiko’s spouse. For a deeper exploration of her family dynamics, I recommend checking out Marnie’s Family. In Anna Sasaki’s dreams, Marnie appears as a lively and amiable girl who interacts warmly with others. Anna’s dreams portray Marnie dealing with feelings of inadequacy.

Initially, Anna believed Marnie was merely a figment of her imagination, but it turns out she’s a genuine individual. Frequently, Marnie pays visits that Anna looks forward to, as they share reminiscences about their respective parents and the lavish festivities they used to host. Nevertheless, both parents are frequently absent from home due to work commitments. In fact, her father returns home only twice a year. Having had ample time with her parents during her childhood, she cherishes them deeply and feels a profound sorrow whenever they leave for work.

Or:

At first, Anna assumed Marnie was just a figment of her imagination. However, it’s been revealed that Marnie is a real person who visits often, providing Anna with enjoyable conversations about their parents and the grand celebrations they used to host together. Despite this, both parents are frequently absent due to work, returning home only twice a year. Having spent much of her childhood in the company of her parents, she has a deep affection for them and misses them deeply when they’re away at work.

In a large estate house, reside the nanny Nan and two caretakers who attend to Marnie. Unfortunately, Marnie experiences a tough existence due to mistreatment from these caretakers. On one occasion, they attempted to confine her within the silo. However, Kazuhiko showed kindness towards her and proved vital in supporting her later on. Tragically, Kazuhiko passed away. The only offspring Marnie had, Emily, met an untimely end in a car crash. Now, all that remains with her is her granddaughter.

Initially exhibiting a fiery temperament, she floats using her crystal orb as transportation. Demanding exorbitant fees from those seeking her assistance (such as recovering a lost item), she compels those unable to pay to confront her underlings in order to gain access to her services without charge.

Tragically, they were slain by Scar, who had just awakened following their medical attention. In a state of insanity, he mistook her parents for the ones responsible for amputating his brother’s arm instead of his own.

Ever since then, Winry has been brought up by her grandmother, Pinako Rockbell – a well-known automail craftswoman. With a deep love for mechanics, Winry demonstrates this to Ed using a wrench, making it clear that his mechanical components should be handled with care. In the passage of time, she eventually found a way to break free, yet during her daring getaway, she sustained a head wound which led to the emergence of a new persona named Nyu. Nyu exhibits characteristics such as childlike innocence, gentleness, and harmlessness. At first, she was unable to communicate beyond saying “Nyu”, but over time, she learned language and even managed to utter Kōta’s name.

13. Mikasa Ackerman

Franchise: Attack on Titan

As a dedicated cinephile, I’d rephrase it this way: Being a survivor from an eastern lineage, I was once saved and taken in by Eren and his family during my childhood. Sakura Haruno, now known as Sakura Uchiha, is a high-ranking ninja from the Hidden Leaf Village (Konohagakure). Originally part of Team 7, she was one of the female characters in the series, though creator Kishimoto acknowledged that he didn’t have a clear image of what an ideal heroine might look like.

Growing up, Sakura often faced bullying from other kids because of her prominent forehead, a trait that manga creator Kishimoto intentionally highlighted in her designs. Ino Yamanaka, on the other hand, stepped in to protect Sakura from this teasing at a young age. As they matured, however, their friendship started to wane as both girls developed feelings for Sasuke Uchiha, which caused some distance between them.

For most of the first part, Sakura has a crush on Sasuke, and despises Naruto Uzumaki.

6. Setsuko Yokokawa

Franchise: Grave of the Fireflies (Studio Ghibli)

Setsuko Yokokawa and her brother Seita find themselves battling for survival during the war. She can effortlessly bring joy to those around her. In the face of adversity, such as losing their home in Kobe, she manages to keep her emotions in check, only weeping quietly on her own. Though tears may eventually fall, she remains strong and resilient.

Among her essential belongings are a candy jar and a doll. The doll is noticeable in the American air raid on Kobe. As her brother prepares to depart with her to seek shelter in the bunker, she requests her doll.

She adores her mother deeply, holding onto several of her belongings with an unwavering determination. Among these keepsakes, there’s a collection of buttons and a ring. When her aunt contemplates selling her mother’s kimono, she breaks into tears and desperately tries to stop her. Despite the possibility that her brother may turn outlaw, she sticks by him relentlessly. Yet, she continues to admire him immensely. In truth, he stands as the most vital individual in her life.

At the beginning, she exhibits a sullen, immature, and fearful demeanor. However, as time passes in the enchanted world, she rises above herself and manages to tackle the challenges before her. Her transformation from a weeping cynic into a mature and hopeful individual who looks out for those around her is quite remarkable.

Her unique talent lies in effortlessly forming connections with others. After landing a job at the bathhouse and successfully tackling the incredibly tough chore of cleaning the Rotten Deity, she earns a precious herb dumpling as a token of gratitude from him. Initially, those around her, particularly Yubaba, the Yunas, and the bathhouse staff, are not exactly friendly towards her. However, with time, they grow to embrace her.

Beyond being helpful, she shows great compassion. Despite Haku’s reputation for suspicious tasks under Yubaba, she bravely intervenes to save him. She does not stop there; she visits Zeniba to seek pardon for Haku. Moreover, she has the ability to calm down even the most irate of oafs.

I can’t help but find myself captivated by her, as she stands as the central figure in this intriguing manga. She possesses a charm that effortlessly draws you in. Remarkably, more than half a century ago, she was welcomed into the esteemed Kuchiki family, a powerful shinigami lineage, sparing her the arduous examination to join Gotei 13.
