The Rasengan is a spinning orb of chakra that can be controlled by a select few ninja. This powerful technique, often used in combination with its variations, is highly recognized and considered one of the strongest abilities within the Naruto universe.
In our latest piece, it’s been uncovered that Minato Namikaze is the one who crafted the Rasengan. Here, we will be ranking every character known to possess the Rasengan according to their total power and proficiency with this unique skill.
10. Breeze Dancer
Character Profile: Breeze Dancer
Breeze Dancer, hailing from Konohagakure, is one of the selectable characters in Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Online. At present, she isn’t affiliated with any specific group but serves as a transient student at the Ninja Academy.
Her extensive travels across various nations for extended periods have granted her an exceptional societal viewpoint. She finds solace in gazing far into the horizon.
Her approach encompasses wind-relief methods and persistent assaults. In combat, her movements radiate grandeur and have a positive impact on team spirit. Moreover, she is proficient in employing the Rasengan.
She uses techniques like wind relief and keeps attacking. When she fights, she looks amazing and it makes her team feel more confident. She can also use this thing called Rasengan.
9. Hiruko
Using her Chimera Method, Hiruko gained control over four unique powers, or Ninja Arts: Storm, Darkness, Steel, and Speed. Her ultimate goal was to absorb a fifth one, the Sharingan, from Kakashi Hatake. This would complete her transformation and grant her eternal life. With the Speed Element at her disposal, she can move swiftly, becoming virtually invincible and striking opponents with incredible speed and force. Additionally, this power makes her immune to physical combat techniques (taijutsu).
Owing to the Steel Release technique, Hiruko’s body becomes impervious to damage caused by weapons. Furthermore, his control over the Storm element enables him to conjure ominous, moldable dark clouds capable of capturing enemy chakra.
Hiruko possesses an additional ability: he can take in the Dark Element, which he manipulates via a unique symbol on his hand that resembles two stacked rhombuses. The lower rhombus enables him to soak up any Ninjutsu technique, and the stored chakra can then be unleashed as blue flames to assault his adversary.
It becomes clear later that he has the ability to take in chakra through his mouth, and can also perform techniques without any prior training, including the Great Ball Rasengan and Raikiri. However, so far, the Dark Element has been unable to assimilate advanced ninjutsu like Naruto’s Rasen Shuriken.
8. Koji Kashin
Koji employs the ninja techniques of Konohagakure. He has the capability to generate several duplicates and swap places with them. In contrast, it’s been demonstrated that he can produce the Rasengan, a skill that allows him to create it with a single hand and possesses enough strength to neutralize the one used by Konohamaru. Furthermore, he can utilize the Super Big Ball Rasengan as well.
Koji possesses an extraordinary ability; he can expel toad secretions from his mouth to serve as a source of energy for his fire-related skills, grow hairs from the same substance to trap and entangle enemies, and even transform these hairs into sharp needles for defensive purposes.
7. Konohamaru Sarutobi
During his days as a student and genin, Konohamaru’s primary toolkit was filled with suggestive moves he picked up from Naruto or devised himself. However, even then, he also mastered a variety of combat-focused techniques. One such skill is the ability to produce copies of himself, which he employs either as diversions or backup to enhance the execution of specific skills.
Initially, he required assistance from a shadow duplicate to perform it, but later on, he mastered the skill to do it single-handedly. In the series, his talent led him to inadvertently craft a Great Ball Rasengan without any prior practice. As an adult, he can merge his Rasengan with Boruto’s to generate a significantly stronger one.
6. Boruto Uzumaki
With Konohamaru as his mentor, Boruto mastered the art of creating the Rasengan, showcasing exceptional skill in managing and shaping chakra using just one hand. Over time, the strength of his Rasengan expanded so much that it would generate a massive vortex upon striking a target. As he progressed, Boruto refined the Rasengan by instinctively incorporating Lightning Release into it, resulting in the powerful technique known as the Vanishing Rasengan.
This ability can be launched at a moderate distance and also vanish while in flight. Its destructive power fluctuates; on its initial activation, it caused a large indentation on a tree and later inflicted injury on Momoshiki. At first, the attack was compact, but eventually, it grew to match the scale of a typical Rasengan.
Similarly, through teamwork with his father Naruto’s chakra, Boruto managed to construct a massive Rasengan. This powerful technique was impressive enough to shatter a Tailed Beast Ball crafted by Momoshiki, obliterate the remnants of a Tree God, and annihilate the entire Ōtsutsuki clan.
5. Kakashi Hatake
Kakashi frequently employs his proficiency in Ninjutsu, an area he’s exceptionally skilled in thanks to his Sharingan eye. It’s been mentioned that Kakashi has mastered a thousand techniques from the Sharingan. With such a vast collection of moves at his disposal, he can adapt his strategies to attack or defend against various opponents in multiple ways.
He’s demonstrated exceptional proficiency in Genjutsu, and his Taijutsu abilities are equally impressive. With his remarkable agility, he can catch opponents off balance and dodge attacks with ease. His level of skill in Taijutsu is quite high, matching that of Hidan – a formidable opponent known for his mastery of combat, who was supported by Kakuzu. Despite this, he managed to defend himself using just a Kunai without receiving a single wound.
Kakashi’s proficiency in Hand Seals is exceptional, allowing him to execute advanced jutsus at an astonishing speed. Orochimaru admired his level of mastery given his age. Kakashi has successfully mastered the Rasengan and aspired to infuse it with Lightning Release, but found it challenging. As a result, he resorts to using Chidori, a technique that demands precise Power Manipulation and a deep understanding of Nature Transformation.
4. Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki
Because Momoshisi can assimilate all forms of Ninjutsu, he has the capacity to unleash them on a far greater magnitude. This skill allows him to generate enormous Tailed Beast Balls and significantly expand the reach of his Shadow Imitation Technique.
In the anime, Momoshiki transformed the Rasengan into a massive Crimson Spiral. After merging with Kinshiki, Momoshki displayed the ability to manipulate Kinshiki’s long hair as an impromptu weapon to subdue opponents, and summon chakra replicas from the ground to trap a target.
3. Jiraiya
As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the versatile arsenal of ninjutsu techniques that Jiraiya wields. His hair, not just a casual do, is a formidable weapon; he can grow it large and sharp for both offense and defense. But wait, there’s more! He has the ability to spit oil from his mouth, a tactic that leaves his foes immobilized. Remarkably, he mastered the Rasengan technique, initially taught by his disciple Minato, and even managed to refine it into extraordinary variations.
Due to his extensive knowledge, Jiraiya was capable of instructing Yahiko and Nagato on the art of controlling their chakra’s essence. Known for his meticulous nature, he had an uncanny knack for refining or pushing the boundaries of a technique so much that he could elevate even a basic E-Rank technique. This versatility proved invaluable in missions involving espionage and reconnaissance. In addition to his combat prowess, Jiraiya was exceptionally proficient in constructing barrier techniques.
Among his skills are the Dome Formation Technique for detecting movement within a specific distance, and the Pumpkin Toad Prison Technique for trapping an adversary inside a small toad shaped like a pumpkin, filled with a stomach acid lake. Although he had some understanding of genjutsu recognition and countermeasures, he was not skilled in using it himself and instead relied on his partners to create illusions.
2. Minato Namikaze
In my critique as a movie-goer, I’d say: Over the span of three grueling years, our protagonist masterfully crafted the Rasengan – a legendary technique rumored to be modeled after the Tailed Beast Ball. Unlike other techniques that demand intricate hand seals, this one taps into an intense focus and control of chakra, transforming it into a devastating sphere right within the user’s grasp upon impact.
Minato was exceptionally skilled in crafting the Rasengan, a technique he had mastered to such an extent that he could shape it with just one hand at astonishing speed. Compared to the Rasengans used by other characters, his was slightly bigger. The unique aspect of this technique is that Minato didn’t need extensive preparations before using it, which made it more advantageous for him against other users.
As a passionate movie-goer, I’d rephrase that action scene like this: During the intense showdown against Tobi, I managed to create a powerful Rasengan by tossing a marked kunai at him first. This allowed me to deliver an immediate, crushing blow with the Flying Thunder God Jutsu shortly after. In my final moments, I aimed to fuse the Rasengan with my own nature transformation, but the challenge proved too great and the task remained unfinished due to my untimely demise.
1. Naruto Uzumaki
While on a mission to find Tsunade, Jiraiya imparts the Rasengan technique to Naruto. Originally crafted by Minato Namikaze, this method would later become Naruto’s preferred and primary offensive move. Due to his struggles with chakra control, Naruto resorts to using multiple clones to aid him in concentrating and shaping the chakra.
In the span of three years while traveling with Jiraiya, Naruto developed an enhanced form of the Rasengan, known as the Great Ball Rasengan. This version was crafted for increased accuracy when striking a larger adversary. Remarkably, he mastered an even bigger variant, the Super Big Ball Rasengan, without requiring Sage Mode or the chakra from Kurama.
After discovering that the Rasengan was an incompletely mastered Ninjutsu, Naruto chose to blend his wind-type chakra to enhance it, resulting in the Wind Release: Rasengan. With this new technique under his belt, Naruto devised his own unique move – the Wind Release: Rasen Shuriken. This formidable jutsu has the potential to inflict severe harm upon its adversary.
Despite the potential adverse effects it brought upon him, Naruto found a solution by altering his method of using it and transitioning into Sage Mode. This transformation, guided by Jiraiya, led to the creation of numerous Rasengan techniques while in Sage Mode. The power of these techniques was amplified through Chakra Senjutsu, resulting in variations like the Rasenrengan, the powerful Great Ball Rasengan, and the even more potent Super Great Ball Rasengan.
Naruto has found a method to merge his Rasengan with his shadow duplicates, resulting in a multitude of Rasengan balls similar to his Spinning Spheres Groups (Super Large and Large) in Spiral form. He can even amplify the power of the initial one by entering Sage Mode, thereby summoning the Sage Technique: Super Rotating Sphere Cluster.
