The Harry Potter series boasts a rich array of intricately developed characters, many of whom are portrayed as strikingly beautiful or handsomely attractive. These characterizations are consistent across both the books and their film adaptations. Much like other popular franchises, the debate persists: which character is considered the most alluring?
10. Oliver Wood
One of the initial characters we encounter in ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ is Oliver Wood. He belongs to Gryffindor house, slightly senior to Harry, and we first come across him when Professor McGonagall suggests that Harry should be the latest addition to the Quidditch team as the Seeker for Gryffindor.
In the novels, Oliver isn’t portrayed as extremely handsome, but rather he possesses a unique charm. Throughout the narrative, there are moments where several girls express their infatuation with Oliver. This aspect of his character is even more pronounced in the films, with Sean Biggerstaff being cast as Oliver, effectively capturing the down-to-earth appeal that Oliver exudes in the books.
9. Ginny Weasley
In the stories, numerous individuals at Hogwarts find Ginny Weasley aesthetically pleasing. Beyond her physical attractiveness, she’s portrayed as witty and kind-hearted, traits that draw others to her and make her endearing.
As a key member of the Gryffindor Quidditch squad and a top-notch athlete, she became admired and well-regarded by her fellow students. Furthermore, she attracted attention not only from the story’s lead character but also from Dean and Blaise Zabini, who found her incredibly attractive.
8. Bellatrix Lestrange
From my perspective as a devoted fan, Helena Bonham Carter brilliantly brings Bellatrix to life in the films, particularly after her Azkaban stint. However, delving into the pages of J.K. Rowling’s masterpiece, we encounter numerous descriptions of young Bellatrix that portray her as exceptionally beautiful, a trait noted by both Harry and Sirius.
In contrast to what’s portrayed in the films, J.K. Rowling intended for Bellatrix Lestrange’s evil personality to stand out more than her physical appearance. Some fans argued that this approach missed an opportunity to underscore the idea that anyone could become a villain and make her character less black-and-white.
7. Sirius Black
In most of the movie series, you won’t see much of the Marauders, with the exception of the third film. Notably, Sirius Black is scarcely present in the films. However, it’s worth noting that the Marauders are extensively detailed in the books.
In the books, Sirius is often portrayed as being tall, good-looking, and possessing an appealing face, along with an air of sophistication. This description holds true for both older Sirius following his escape from Azkaban, as well as younger Sirius.
In the course of the series, it’s often pointed out that various characters find young Sirius Black attractive. Harry, for instance, gets a glimpse of him in Snape’s memories during occlumency practice and remarks that Sirius was quite good-looking when he was younger. If you’d like an idea of what young Sirius might have looked like, Ben Barns has been suggested as a potential actor to portray him in hypothetical media focusing on the Marauders.
6. Cedric Diggory
It’s been affirmed that this character, Cedric, was particularly appealing, as even J.K. Rowling herself mentioned it. Cedric is portrayed as Hogwarts’ shining star, excelling in various areas and admired by every student due to his talent and charm.
Additionally, he stands out with his striking good looks, causing quite a stir among the student body when chosen by the Goblet of Fire to represent Hogwarts in the Triwizard Tournament. This raised concerns, as many students fretted over potential injuries during the challenges and their impact on his appearance.
In the films, Robert Pattinson portrays Cedric. Back then, his performance earned him the title of a heartthrob for numerous fans.
In the movies, it’s Robert Pattinson who takes on the role of Cedric. This part helped solidify his status as a crush-worthy star for many viewers at that time.
5. Hermione Granger
Hermione Granger is a key character from the start of the series, forming part of the primary protagonist group known as the trio. Unlike some other characters, she’s less about physical attributes and more about her distinct personality traits.
From the start of the magical series, I’ve always been recognized for my keen intellect and unabashed passion for learning. However, it was during the ‘Goblet of Fire’ that a greater spotlight shone on my physical aspect, particularly during the enchanting Yule Ball event.
In the magical world’s literature, it’s mostly my intelligence and character that take the spotlight when it comes to dear Hermione. However, on this particular occasion, it seems the authors chose to highlight her physical aspect too, which was quite unexpected but delightful for a dedicated fan like me.
At this point, she’s depicted as breathtakingly beautiful, leaving little doubt as to why Victor Crum became smitten with her. While the books don’t delve deeply into her appearance, the films underscore it by selecting Emma Watson to portray Hermione.
4. Harry Potter
Harry, apart from being casually referred to as a kindhearted lad, isn’t extensively characterized by his physical attributes. Instead, he is portrayed as a sympathetic figure who aims to assist everyone and is generally well-regarded by those around him. He doesn’t particularly distinguish himself from his peers except for being recognized as ‘the boy who lived’.
Nevertheless, throughout the course of the series, it becomes apparent that several girls develop feelings for Harry, such as Romilda Vane, as depicted in the films.
Additionally, it’s noted that both Harry’s parents were quite attractive. Lilly Evans was renowned for her beauty, being the most beautiful girl in her year. On the other hand, James was known for his popularity and good looks, often referred to as a jock. These traits seem to have been passed on to Harry, making him popular among girls. Moreover, some of this appeal could be attributed to his role as the Chosen One, as many were drawn to him because of it.
3. Fleur Delacour
As a movie enthusiast, I was first acquainted with Fleur in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.’ She hails from the prestigious Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and her character enters the narrative when she’s selected to represent Beauxbatons as their champion in the Triwizard tournament.
In the books, it’s noted that she was so stunningly beautiful upon her arrival at Hogwarts during the year of the Triwizard Tournament, her charm left everyone spellbound.
It’s logical because she is one-quarter of Veela descent. Veelas are essentially half fairies with European roots, famed for their exceptional beauty and distinctive white-blonde hair. Her mother being a half-Veela also meant that her captivating charm was passed down to Fleur.
2. Draco Malfoy
While many readers find Draco Malfoy appealing, the Harry Potter books don’t explicitly describe him in this manner. This view is further backed by J.K. Rowling, who stated during an interview that she did not envision Draco as an attractive character.
From another perspective, it’s quite clear why fans everywhere find Draco appealing. His troubled past and potential for redemption turn his actions into those of a misjudged youngster rather than a bully.
The books depict Draco as having fair skin, platinum-blond hair, and chilly gray eyes, and the film interpretation appears to accurately capture this likeness, with some additional focus on specific features of his physical appearance.
Despite the book only providing a minimal and rather ordinary description of Draco’s appearance, the movies brought about a significant shift as the actor portraying Draco, Tom Felton, was widely regarded as one of the most appealing cast members when the films were first released.
1. Tom Riddle
We’re discussing Tom Riddle prior to Voldemort, a time when he still possessed a nose and a soul. It’s interesting to note that when young Tom Riddle is brought up, he is often described as having an attractive appearance.
He boasts a fair skin tone, coupled with dark locks and enigmatic charisma. J.K. Rowling frequently highlights his allure and handsomeness whenever he appears in her novels, leading many readers to believe he is quite attractive.
The point is repeatedly brought up by various characters within the series, including Harry, Slughorn, and Dumbledore, while discussing Tom Riddle. In the films, the young version of Tom Riddle is portrayed by Christian Coulson, who masterfully captures the physical traits as depicted in the books.
