Tony Nominations 2025 Snubs: From Denzel Washington to Jake Gyllenhaal, All-Big Names Who Missed the Cut

In 2025, the Tony Awards will celebrate various critically acclaimed and cherished Broadway musicals. Notable figures like George Clooney and Sadie Sink are among those who received their first nominations, alongside many others. Yet, some stars conspicuously absent from the list have delivered captivating performances on Broadway.

Despite their standout performances in the Broadway version of Othello, adapted from Shakespeare’s work, Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal were unfortunately not recognized during the awards race. Denzel Washington took on the role of Othello, the honorable Moor of Venice, while Jake Gyllenhaal portrayed Iago, the villain in this production.

In a musical titled Redwood, Idina Menzel played a role, which follows a woman’s exploration of a redwood forest following a significant life change. Regrettably, this entire production missed out on being nominated for the Tonys.

Following his triumph as the Best Actor at the Oscars a year ago, Robert Downey Jr. subsequently took on the lead role in the Broadway play “McNeal”. This production delves into contemporary topics such as the challenges of artificial intelligence, plagiarism, and other intriguing themes.

Over time, Jim Parsons, known for his role on The Big Bang Theory, has graced numerous Broadway productions. His latest appearance was in “Our Town,” a play that delves into the ordinary lives of townsfolk living from 1901 to 1913.

Stars not included in the Tony Award nominations include Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren, who were part of the Broadway show “The Last Five Years,” which is adapted from Jason Robert Brown’s self-titled novel.

1) According to its summary, the play delves into the “chaotic, elated, sensual, wild, transient thrill of experiencing love’s ups and downs in New York City.” The 78th Tony Awards are scheduled for this coming Sunday, June 8.
