It appears that the Tomb Raider series on Amazon Prime Video, featuring Sophie Turner portraying Lara Croft and co-created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, will indeed be progressing.
Previously there were reports that the series had been cancelled, but now it’s officially confirmed that it will go ahead, though there will be a change in the production team as two new producers have joined the project.
What are the details?
In this project, Sophie Turner has been officially cast, while Phoebe Waller-Bridge assumes the roles of creator, scriptwriter, and executive producer.
Chad Hodge, renowned LGBQT+ writer from shows like Good Behavior, Wayward Pines, and Netflix’s Single All the Way, is teaming up with her as executive producer and co-showrunner. Additionally, Jonathan Van Tulleken, director and executive producer of Shogun, Dope Thief, and Amazon’s upcoming Blade Runner 2099, will also join the project in the role of director and executive producer.
Tomb Raider starts filming on January 19.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge added, ‘This fantastic creative team and I are beyond excited to bring this show of epic scale to life, featuring a character we’ve always admired. The entire crew shares an immense passion for Lara, mirroring her spirit of audacity, bravery, and humor. So, dust off those artifacts! Lara Croft is making her grand entrance!’
Vernon Sanders comments
Vernon Sanders, Head of Global Television for Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios, expressed excitement about Sophie Turner playing Lara Croft, one of video gaming’s most famous and enduring characters. Turner will portray Croft’s courage, strength, and unwavering determination, as the series created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge aims to maintain the Tomb Raider legacy while introducing new thrilling adventures for fans around the world.
Sophie Turner comments
Turner expressed tremendous excitement about portraying Lara Croft. She’s a legendary character with a significant impact on many, and he is putting his heart and soul into the role. It’s challenging to follow in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, both of whom delivered exceptional performances as Lara, but with Phoebe Somerville directing, they are in capable hands. I can hardly wait for everyone to see what we have planned!
