Comedian Dominic Holland, the father of Tom Holland, has clarified what happened with his son’s recent on-set accident while filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He’s stated that reports of a “horrendous injury” and a dramatic ambulance situation were overblown and inaccurate.
What Really Happened
In a post on The Brothers Trust website, Dominic Holland explained that while Tom experienced a minor concussion, the majority of the sensationalized stories circulating in the tabloids were inaccurate.
He wrote that reading media reports about Tom’s ‘horrendous injury’ reminded him of the saying you shouldn’t trust everything you read in newspapers.
He explained, “There wasn’t an ambulance present, and filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t happening at Leavesden Studio. It’s possible the person driving the ambulance also suffered a head injury.”
Dominic mentioned that Tom bumped his head while at work and went to the hospital “just to be safe,” and ended up staying overnight at what he called a “fancy hospital.” Despite this, Tom still managed to arrive at The Brothers Trust Posh Pub Quiz on time the next morning, although he had to leave before it finished because he wasn’t feeling well.
The Real Story From the Event
As Dominic explained, Tom started running the charity quiz, but after the second round, he began to feel unwell and went behind the scenes. There, the lights and sounds made him sick – these are typical signs of a concussion.
Remember, if someone has a concussion, it’s important to avoid bright lights and loud noises… So, for example, don’t throw a fancy quiz night,” he clarified.
The doctor who was present told Tom he needed to go home right away. Zendaya remained to help the charity, and Dominic took over as host for the rest of the evening. It was a smooth transition.
A Successful Fundraiser
Even though things didn’t go exactly as planned, Dominic stated the event was still a triumph, successfully collecting donations for several charities. He thanked the attendees for their encouragement and playfully suggested he might take on the role of host in the future:
Attendees paid a lot of money to see Tom Holland, but they ended up with someone who seemed more like an amateur performer. However, he didn’t need to be concerned. Even with Tom’s unexpected absence, the event was a huge success,” he explained.
