Tom Holland has always been open about his passion for movie-making, and he considers working on Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey as the most remarkable film set experience of his career. In a recent interview, the actor expressed that this project was like a dream come true for him, as he got to work alongside a director he admires greatly, whom he refers to as a “true master.
In this upcoming production, Holland takes on the role of Telemachus, son of Odysseus (played by Matt Damon), which appears to be Christopher Nolan’s most daring project since “Oppenheimer.
Working with Nolan: A front row seat to greatness
Filming The Odyssey offered Holland a unique perspective into what he characterized as one of the most challenging yet gratifying creative settings he’s ever encountered. In an interview with GQ, Holland expressed that collaborating with Chris and Emma [Thomas] was simply remarkable. “There is a reason they are the tops in their field,” he added.
He described working on the film as “exciting” and “unique,” noting that viewers should anticipate an entirely fresh perspective from Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s timeless classic. He confidently stated, “This job was the opportunity of a lifetime…I believe the movie will be unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.” The film is notable as it’s the first major studio production to have been filmed exclusively using Imax cameras.
Damon and Hathaway: ‘Always been a hero of mine’
One significant highlight for the Spider-Man actor was working alongside long-standing role models. As Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway have been admired figures for him, he shared, “They’ve always been my heroes.” He continued, “To act alongside them, to learn from them, to build friendships with them – it’s more than I could ever hope for in a job.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but express my feelings as I recount the moment when I stepped onto the set, brimming with a fierce determination and a heart swelling with pride for the work that lay ahead. The trust bestowed upon me by none other than Christopher Nolan was not taken lightly, and I felt deeply grateful for it.
The first trailer for our epic adventure, “The Odyssey,” is now gracing the big screens in theaters nationwide, offering a glimpse into the emotional turmoil that my character, Telemachus, experiences as he embarks on a quest to uncover the truth about his missing father. Mark your calendars for July 17, 2026, when this cinematic masterpiece will be unveiled!
