Christopher Nolan secured his first two Oscars for the movie “Oppenheimer” in 2024, winning Best Director and Best Picture. However, he missed out on the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, which instead went to Cord Jefferson for “American Fiction”. Yet, if Tom Holland’s predictions are correct, Nolan may soon claim an additional golden statue with his upcoming masterpiece, “The Odyssey”, as Holland claims it has the best script he’s ever read.
France 24 reported on a conversation between Holland and Agence France-Press (which we initially learned about via Deadline), during which they talked about his experience filming Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of Homer’s famous epic poem. Interestingly, this will be the first movie ever shot entirely using IMAX cameras, promising an impressive cinematic spectacle.
In the movie, Tom Holland portrays Telemachus, the son of Matt Damon’s character Odysseus, who is known to be a great admirer of director Christopher Nolan. Not only does he highly regard the script as exceptional, but he also commends Nolan for his collaborative approach. In his own words, “Nolan is a real collaborator who knows exactly what he wants.” This doesn’t mean that there’s no room for suggestions or character development, instead, it creates an environment where ideas can be pitched and characters can be built in certain ways. Holland has also described working on the film as the opportunity of a lifetime and the best experience he’s ever had on a set.
In other words, Holland’s remarks are slightly lacking, perhaps needing a sacrifice of his finest goat and a spread of his best nectar and ambrosia to complete the picture. However, we understand that director Christopher Nolan is competent in his craft, and with Oppenheimer, he certainly demonstrates his ability to transform excellent source material. If Holland’s predictions are accurate regarding what Nolan has penned, then he will undeniably receive the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar in 2027. The release of The Odyssey is scheduled for July 17, 2026.
