As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for DC Universe lore, I can’t help but feel a thrill at the prospect of Tom Hardy potentially reprising his role as Bane, especially if paired with Deathstroke. Having grown up watching Heath Ledger’s iconic Joker and Hardy’s menacing portrayal of Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ I can only imagine the electrifying chemistry these two characters could bring to the big screen.
During a chat with Entertainment Tonight, actor Tom Hardy voiced his openness to reprise the character of Bane in a possible DC Studios venture, if such a project were to team up Bane with Deathstroke.
Hardy, well-known for his unique portrayal in ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ expressed enthusiasm about the prospect, saying, “Absolutely! I’d be thrilled to do so,” yet admitted that his days as the character could be numbered, hinting that perhaps another actor should step up to carry on the role.
In 2012’s Christopher Nolan film, Hardy found himself pondering over the challenging undertaking of creating a fresh villain character, in the wake of Heath Ledger’s iconic portrayal of The Joker. He grappled with the choice between using a standard menacing voice or opting for something more distinct and original instead.
Hardy decided to create a unique twist for his character Bane by drawing inspiration from Bartley Gorman, a well-known bare-knuckle boxer with a mix of Romani Gypsy and Latin heritage, for his accent. This choice gave Bane’s persona an intriguing layer of depth and cultural richness.
As a die-hard fan, I must admit that when it came to giving Bane’s voice a splash of color, I knew there was a risk of my choice being met with laughter. However, I firmly believed that this vibrant tone captured the character’s raw, physical nature perfectly. In hindsight, it seems my gamble paid off; even though initial feedback on the intelligibility of his voice was mixed, the impact endured and left an indelible mark.
Regarding the upcoming team-up film, its development is currently unclear due to a recent suggestion by James Gunn that not every project within the DC Universe may proceed as planned.
It’s still undecided whether Hardy will resume his role or if the production will utilize visual effects to portray Bane in the impressive way he’s known from the comics.
