Thompson explained she also felt uneasy about the scene. The producers actually wanted them to film two romantic scenes. “Tom was able to convince them to drop one,” she said. However, because Cruise was still early in his career, he didn’t have enough influence to get rid of the other one completely.
Cruise was determined to avoid a repeat of past issues. Since then, he’s built a career centered around action and dramatic roles, proving that a film doesn’t need a romantic storyline to be successful.
