Tom Cruise garnered attention as he commended his former spouse, Nicole Kidman, during a conversation about their movie, “Eyes Wide Shut,” which premiered in 1999 under the direction of Stanley Kubrick.
In an interview with Sight and Sound (a publication by the British Film Institute), Cruise talked about the movie and Kidman, as reported by Deadline.
Speaking about the movie, the actor expressed, “I found it an amazing opportunity. I was really thrilled to be part of it.” Cruise further explained that he was familiar with Stanley’s works and was introduced to him by Sydney Pollack. He continued, stating that Kubrick reached out to Pollack via a fax, expressing his desire to work together on the project.
Cruise discussed his plan to fly to his home and touch down in his backyard. Yesterday was the day he read through the script, and they had an entire day’s conversation centered around it.
Impossible revealed that he has watched every movie directed by Kubrick and further discussed Kubrick’s work with Martin Scorsese, as well as Pollack.
Cruise explained to the media, “At that point, it was mostly us becoming acquainted. While we were doing so, I proposed that Nicole take on the role of Alice, as she’s undeniably an exceptional actress.
Additionally, during an interview with the mentioned publication, Cruise stated that he was aware the filming would take a considerable amount of time, and Kubrick informed him they would finish within 3 to 4 months.
As an utterly devoted fanboy, I exclaimed, “Stanley, listen, I’m right here, ready to support you. Whatever it takes, we’re making this happen! The movie intrigued me immensely, and I yearned for the chance to be a part of that experience.
