James Cameron is a highly respected figure in the world of Hollywood filmmaking, having directed popular films like Avatar, Terminator, and Titanic. Recently, he shared insights into the realm of artificial intelligence (AI), expressing a mix of caution and optimism about its potential application in the movie industry. The director seems intrigued by the possibilities that generative AI could bring to filmmaking.
I had the pleasure of joining the “Boz to the Future” podcast, hosted by none other than Andrew Bosworth himself. In case you’re unfamiliar, he is the Chief Technology Officer at the tech titan, Meta.
It seems to me that we should avoid using prompts like, ‘write in the style of James Cameron’ or ‘write in the style of Zack Snyder,’ as stated by James Cameron during his recent interview.
Despite his reservations, he admitted that the capability of this novel technology to produce results reminiscent of exceptional skills is indeed intriguing and hard to dismiss.
Later, the renowned director expressed his ambition to create movies similar to those of Ridley Scott and Stanley Kubrick. “This is the vision I carry as a filmmaker,” he concluded.
Later on, James Cameron expressed his desire to create movies in a manner similar to George Miller, using “broad lenses, low angles, high speed scenes that culminate in intense, close-up shots.
The discussion between James Cameron and Bosworth covered a wide range of subjects relating to advanced artificial intelligence. For those who are not aware, James Cameron recently became a member of the board at AI company Stability AI, which developed the Stable Diffusion image model last year.
Speaking of that, the director casually shared a fascinating tidbit from his past, “Back in the day, I would’ve started my own venture just to crack the code on it.
As an ardent enthusiast, I’ve come to realize that my previous approach might not have been optimal. So, I decided to take a strategic step forward: “I’ll seize the opportunity to join the board of a robust, competitive company with a stellar reputation,” is what I declared.
At the moment, James Cameron is currently developing his upcoming movie titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” scheduled for release in December.
