Tinker Bell Live-Action Disney+ Series TINK in Development

Disney is bringing Tinker Bell to life in a new drama series for Disney+. The character, known for her appearance in the 1953 film Peter Pan, will be the star of Tink, a series created by Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter, who previously worked together on Friday Night Lights. Interestingly, Disney had considered a Tink movie with Reese Witherspoon about ten years ago, but that project didn’t move forward.

Details about the upcoming show are scarce, except that it will be a dramatic reimagining of the Tinker Bell story. Originally, in J.M. Barrie’s play, Tinker Bell was simply a tiny light. Disney’s 1953 film transformed her into a glamorous character, though contrary to popular belief, she wasn’t inspired by Marilyn Monroe – Monroe rose to fame after the film was already in production. Tinker Bell quickly became incredibly popular, even appearing in the opening credits of Walt Disney’s television show, Disneyland. She remains a huge source of revenue for Disney, and you likely know someone who has a Tinker Bell tattoo.

The report indicates that Tink will be a dramatic TV series, and we’re curious to see how much of the original character will be preserved. Will Tinker Bell stay a small, winged fairy from Neverland, or will she be portrayed as a regular-sized human? Will she still wear her signature green outfit, or will she have a more modern wardrobe? And perhaps most importantly, will she remain silent, or will she finally be given a voice? That last point feels especially important. We expect to learn more details about Tink at upcoming D23 events.
