While anticipating the premiere of his Bob Dylan biopic titled “A Complete Unknown,” Timothée Chalamet recently shared intriguing insights about his initial journey in cinema during an engaging chat with Rolling Stone magazine.

Initially aiming for a different trajectory, Chalamet shared that he sought simple roles at the start of his career. However, the rejections he encountered compelled him, in a roundabout way, to reassess his decisions. Looking back, this unexpected turn of events proved to be the most advantageous choice for him as it led him towards complex and multi-dimensional characters for which he is now renowned as a dramatic actor.

Glancing through Timothée Chalamet’s list of films, you’ll notice that he primarily stars in dramas featuring intricate roles. There are exceptions like the children’s musical Wonka and the sci-fi epic Dune trilogy, but his filmography is largely filled with movies such as Lady Bird, Call Me by Your Name, Beautiful Boy, and Little Women. His upcoming movie, A Complete Unknown, is another drama, a biopic centered around the renowned singer Bob Dylan.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that character-driven roles have been the cornerstone of Chalamet’s acting journey, and he’s become synonymous with them. You might recall our previous post mentioning that the actor expressed interest in taking on a superhero role, but only if the script was outstanding and the director was top-notch – so don’t expect him to suit up for a major action or superhero franchise any time soon. However, it wasn’t always like this at the start of his career.

He explained that a series of unsuccessful auditions for blockbuster action series like Maze Runner and Divergent ultimately led him to explore independent projects such as Call Me by Your Name – a move that turned out to be pivotal for him. Despite initially trying out for these popular action franchises, Chalamet unfortunately missed out on the roles.

Regardless of my efforts, I consistently received the same comment, ‘You’re not built the right way.’ Once, an agent told me they were growing tired of the feedback. They decided to halt submitting me for larger roles because I was struggling to gain weight. However, gaining weight proved challenging for me. It simply wasn’t possible due to my body’s unique metabolism or physiology. I found one door consistently closed, so I sought a supposedly more modest opportunity, but it ultimately led to a significant setback for me.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can wrap my mind around the character of Divergent, but it’s puzzling how he missed out on the Maze Runner role (wasn’t Newt more his speed?). Regardless of their initial judgment, it turned out to be a misstep on their part and a triumph for the cinema world as a whole. This twist of fate has us grinning ear to ear because we got to savor much more of Chalamet on the screen than we would have otherwise.
