Timothée Chalamet is getting attention online after comments he made about Black culture in a recent interview. He was jokingly given the title ‘White Boy of the Year’ at the Believe That awards, a satirical event hosted by YouTuber Anthony Edwards.
Timothée Chalamet accepted the award remotely, appearing in a video call from Budapest, Hungary, where he’s currently filming the next Dune film.
While accepting the award, Chalamet playfully acknowledged the white male artists who came before him, specifically mentioning Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Jason Williams, and Ed Sheeran.
He also posted on Instagram, saying: “It’s easy to lose yourself when you’re caught up in the hype, but life is meaningless without it. I’ll treasure this award and use it to encourage future generations of young men to embrace unrealistic expectations about who they are and their role in the world.”
Timothée Chalamet discussed the award on the 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony podcast, acknowledging the complicated reaction to being labeled “White Boy of the Year.” He explained, “I make jokes about it, but it’s a tricky situation. I want to be respectful and say all the right things, but honestly, I’m just a huge fan – a fan of Black culture, hip hop, and everything that comes with it.”
