A recent Netflix documentary is bringing up past drama from the reality TV show America’s Next Top Model. Tiffany Richardson, a former contestant, is now sharing her experiences with Tyra Banks following the release of Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model. The documentary revisits some of the show’s most debated moments and features Tyra Banks’ own thoughts on them.
Shortly after the documentary came out, Tiffany Richardson shared a detailed and emotional post online. She claimed Tyra Banks was consistently unkind to her, both during and outside of filming sessions years ago. In her post, Richardson directly addressed Banks, stating, “Tyra Banks, let’s be real… you are a liar and a mean person. You know how you treated me throughout the entire process, both on and off camera – you were a bully! You treated me terribly and said awful things about me and my son.”
The comments came after a documentary highlighted a well-known moment from 2005 when Tyra Banks sharply criticized Tiffany Richardson during an elimination round. That scene quickly became a popular clip online and remains widely shared today. Richardson now claims the footage was misleading, stating, “The argument didn’t happen as it was shown, but the editing made it seem like they cared.”
In the same post, she questioned the recent focus on her story, explaining that her current life is vastly different from how it was depicted on the show. She also stated that she’s been more successful and made a bigger impact than many of the top models, adding, “I’ve earned more money and helped more people, but that’s not the story you all choose to tell – it’s a shame.” She expressed a desire to meet with Tyra Banks in person to discuss the truth of what happened.

In the documentary, Banks acknowledges that she sometimes pushed Richardson too hard. She attributes this to the pressures she faced and her frustration with how Black women are treated in the industry. The series also includes commentary from former judges who discuss the demanding expectations and competitive atmosphere of the show.
Since appearing on the show, Richardson has largely lived a private life. She currently works in healthcare and social services, but recent social media posts suggest she still has strong feelings about her experiences and how her story has been portrayed.
People are now revisiting reality TV shows from the early 2000s with a more critical eye. Viewers are starting to wonder about the well-being of the contestants and how much the show’s editing influenced the narratives presented.
