In just a short while, Doctor Doom will make his appearance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Following the movie “Thunderbolts,” there’s only one more film left before the return of Robert Downey Jr., which happens in “Avengers: Doomsday.” Now, did the “Thunderbolts” feature Doctor Doom? Did it hint at his upcoming arrival in any way? Here’s a possible scenario for how the MCU might be setting up the clock for Doom’s entrance.
Thunderbolts never gave any sign or link to the impending arrival of Victor von Doom until the very end. This revelation was saved for the film’s final post-credits scene, which took place 14 months later—one of the most significant post-credits scenes in MCU history>. In this scene, the newly formed Avengers made a mention of a “massive space emergency.” However, despite their collaboration with CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the New Avengers are kept in the dark about this cosmic crisis. They remain unaware of the details.
Bucky and Yelena opted against adopting the name “Avengerz” for rebranding, instead choosing to conduct their independent investigations. Yelena performed a comprehensive assessment of potential threats in space which flagged an unknown spacecraft approaching orbit. She prepared the team’s jets while examining a satellite image, identifying the object as a “ship from another dimension.” The ship, originating from a parallel universe, was revealed to be that of the Fantastic Four, who had officially entered Earth-616’s dimension.
Introducing the Fantastic Four into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe suggests strongly that the massive cosmic issue threatening Earth might be due to an intrusion, or in other words, an incursion.
The danger of universe collisions has loomed over the movie franchise ever since “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness”. In this storyline, John Krasinski’s Mister Fantastic, who is the initial variant of Reed Richards in the MCU, enlightened Stephen Strange about this devastating interdimensional disaster. An incursion refers to a situation where the boundary between two universes weakens and they crash into each other, potentially wiping out one or both entirely.
In different incarnations of Doctor Strange, numerous incursions occurred, resulting in the death of billions. Towards the end of the credits, Charlize Theron’s character Clea appeared on Earth-616 and approached Doctor Strange to ask for his assistance in preventing an approaching incursion that he himself had initiated.
In the movie “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, Kang discussed how the conflicts among his Variants, as mentioned by He Who Remains in the final episode of Loki’s first season, resulted in “universe clashes” and “constant invasions.
After the end of the movie “The Marvels”, there was an additional scene showing that Monica Rambeau had traveled through a tear in the multiverse and ended up in a world where mutants, like the X-Men, exist. Although some mutants have been present in previous movies, they are expected to play a more significant role in “Avengers: Doomsday” and likely also in “Avengers: Secret Wars”. The latter is a storyline about conflicts and incursions between different universes.
Victor von Doom, hailing from another dimension, is set to appear. Once he’s here, he plans to bring super-beings from various realms into conflict with each other. Reminiscent of the Fantastic Four (who may have survived the demise of their own universe), the mere materialization of Doom from a parallel universe could pose a threat of an intrusion. He might even deliberately attempt such an incursion. Governments worldwide, struggling to comprehend this existential danger, would try to hide it not only from the Avengers but also from the Avengerz, their counterparts.
It’s still unclear how, precisely why, and at what point Doctor Doom will make his way to Earth-616. However, it’s certain that his appearance will undeniably escalate into a “massive cosmic predicament.
