Three Tragic Deaths Reported at Walt Disney World in Under Two Weeks

Local officials and news outlets have reported that Walt Disney World has seen a third death occur on its property in under two weeks.

On October 23rd, a man in his 60s was found dead at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, near Magic Kingdom. Authorities have confirmed to the New York Post that his death was a suicide.

A TikTok video from the scene showed police tape and emergency workers in the hotel’s courtyard.

On October 21st, a man in his 60s died after experiencing a medical issue at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. He was transported to a hospital but unfortunately passed away. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, there was no indication of any crime being involved.

The first death in a series of unfortunate events occurred on October 14th, when 31-year-old Summer Equitz, a devoted Disney fan, died at the Contemporary Resort. While early reports indicated she may have been hit by the monorail, authorities later confirmed she died by suicide after falling from a balcony. According to officials who spoke with the New York Post, she died from severe injuries sustained in the fall.

A recent death at Disney’s Contemporary Resort brings the total number of deaths at Walt Disney World since 1971 to 68, according to reports. Guests staying near Magic Kingdom saw a large emergency response, including many ambulances and road closures.

Disney employees told families to avoid looking out the back windows, and used tents and the hotel grounds to hide the view of what was happening. A TikTok user, @aoitfamily, posted a video showing crime scene tape near the pool at Bay Lake Tower, and guests were informed it was a “medical emergency.”

Matthew Cohn, 28, who died on October 23rd, checked into a room at Disney’s Contemporary Resort on October 22nd. According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, he died from injuries sustained after falling from Bay Lake Tower, and his death was ruled a suicide.
