Thomas Jane Joins ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Final Season in Iconic Role

Fans can look forward to seeing two well-known characters from Star Trek in the upcoming final season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which streams on Paramount+. Thomas Jane, famous for his work on The Expanse, will be joining the cast as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, a beloved character from the original Star Trek series.

Kai Murakami joins the cast as Hikaru Sulu. Both he and the returning actor are scheduled to appear in the season five finale, which has already been filmed.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a new addition to the Star Trek franchise, developed by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet.

Set roughly ten years before the original Star Trek, this series centers on Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the starship Enterprise. It began as a spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery and first aired on Paramount+ in May 2022.

The series stars Anson Mount as Captain Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, and Rebecca Romijn as Number One. These actors originally appeared on Discovery and returned due to popular demand. Joining them are Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, Bruce Horak, and Martin Quinn, some of whom are playing younger versions of well-known characters from the original Star Trek series.

The show is a CBS Studios production, made with the help of Secret Hideout, Weed Road Pictures, H M R X Productions, and Roddenberry Entertainment. Filming takes place at CBS Stages Canada in Mississauga, Ontario. The creators chose to tell stories one episode at a time, similar to the original Star Trek series, instead of having one long, continuous story like the show Discovery.

Several seasons of Strange New Worlds have already been released. The first season premiered between May and July of 2022, followed by the second in 2023 and the third in 2025. A fourth season is planned for 2026, and the show will conclude with a fifth and final season consisting of just six episodes. Critics have applauded the series for its self-contained episodes, excellent acting, and dedication to the spirit of Star Trek.

It has also received two Primetime Creative Arts Emmy nominations and won two Saturn Awards.
