This Monster Wants to Eat Me Set for 2025 Release; All We Know So Far

As a lifestyle expert with a vast background in anime and manga culture, I must say that I am genuinely thrilled about the upcoming adaptation of “This Monster Wants to Eat Me” in 2025. Having delved into various genres over the years, I’ve always had a soft spot for unique storylines that blend romance with the supernatural, and this seems to be right up my alley!

2025 marks the anticipated debut of the anime adaptation for the beloved manga series “This Monster Wants to Eat Me” (Watashi wo Tabetai, Hitodenashi), a popular title in the girl’s love genre. This exciting news was shared on October 21, 2024, through a teaser trailer posted on the official YouTube channel of Infinite Studios, the company responsible for its production.

The anime adaptation will stick closely to the original manga written by Sai Naekawa. First published in August 2020, this manga combines elements of the romance genre with a supernatural backdrop, catering to an adult male demographic (Seinen). It centers around Hinako Yaotose, a high school girl living in a coastal town, whose unique charm attracts monsters seeking to consume her. To shield Hinako from harm, a mermaid named Shiori Oumi emerges and makes a pact: she’ll protect Hinako until it’s time for her to be eaten. Over the course of their shared existence, their bond develops in unforeseen directions.

The teaser trailer focused on Hinako’s introduction to the mysterious world around her. In one scene, she encounters Shiori, which hints at the eerie and intense dynamics between the two characters. The teaser ends with a haunting image of Hinako and Shiori holding hands, with Shiori covered in blood.

At Studio Lings, known for their work on Yuri is My Job!, it’s them taking charge of the animation. Key personnel have also been unveiled. Directors Naoyuki Kuzuya, known for Rent-a-Girlfriend, and Yuusuke Suzuki, who has contributed to To Love Ru Darkness, will lead the project. The script is being penned by Mitsutaka Hirota, whose past works include Eden’s Zero. Keiji Inai, known for Burn the Witch, will create the music. Sou Ikuyama, who worked on Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World, will be responsible for the character designs.

In the upcoming project, it’s been confirmed that Reina Ueda, recognized for playing Chinatsu in Blue Box, will lend her voice to the lead character, Hinako Yaotose. More casting updates are anticipated as we get closer to the launch date.

Enthusiasts of the initial comic series are excitedly looking forward to the upcoming television adaptation, set to deliver a captivating blend of romance, drama, and supernatural elements in 2025.
