‘This Guy Is Just Yapping In My Ears’: Deadpool & Wolverine Star Dafne Keen Reveals How Channing Tatum’s Gambit Would Mess Around at Sets

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience in the entertainment industry, I must say that the recent addition of Channing Tatum as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine has been nothing short of a breath of fresh air. Having spent many years behind the scenes, I’ve seen countless actors struggle to find their footing in iconic roles, but Tatum’s portrayal of Remy Lebeau is truly remarkable.

For two consecutive weekends, the collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine surpassed expectations at the box office, offering a candid glimpse into the Marvel Universe. One particularly noteworthy surprise was Channing Tatum’s debut as Remy Lebeau, also known as Gambit. Tatum had long campaigned for this role in a standalone film from 20th Century Fox, and his chance finally came. His portrayal of the character, complete with a Cajun accent and witty one-liners, was endearing and added humor not only to his performance but also to his co-stars.

During an interview on the ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast, Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney / X-23) shared that she frequently found herself laughing on set due to the infectious energy that Taylor Kitsch (Tatum) radiated. According to Keen, maintaining a straight face while working with Kitsch proved challenging at times.

Keen explained that she had to tell him, “On my cue, you can’t improvise your dialogue.” She found it challenging to maintain her character when Tatum would inject humor into his lines, disrupting her intense, brooding portrayal of Wolverine.

She remarked, “‘He often spoke phrases such as, ‘I was placing my nuts in my pantry…’, but I must focus on my tasks here. Your behavior is quite challenging.”

In the midst of the laughter, Keen expressed her admiration for Tatum’s skill. She supported him during scenes where his unexpected humor shone through. Keen also mentioned instances when Tatum’s performance left her struggling to keep a straight face.

“I’m calm and collected and this guy is just like yapping in my ear.”

During a particularly amusing moment in the full-on scene, Channing’s delivery of his line left Kevin struggling to suppress his chuckles while still on camera.

In a natural and easy-to-read manner: Tatum’s dedication to his role and maintaining his character, even infusing humor, created a lively atmosphere on set and demonstrated his acting prowess. Introducing Gambit, he brought a unique energy to Deadpool and Wolverine, making his debut particularly memorable.
