As a devoted fan with a soft spot for heartwarming tales of success, I must say that witnessing Kelly Ripa’s induction into the Disney Legend club was nothing short of magical! Her speech was a perfect blend of humor and gratitude, much like her charismatic personality. It’s not every day you get to see a legend make jokes about their own fame while simultaneously acknowledging their debt to Disney.
On Sunday, August 11, at the D23 event in Anaheim, California, Kelly Ripa was officially bestowed the title of Disney Legend. Known for her long-standing work on television, she has been recognized by Disney for her substantial impact on The Walt Disney Company. Accepting the honor with a humorous and appreciative speech, Ripa made the celebration an unforgettable event for everyone present, as reported by PEOPLE.
In her heartfelt speech, Ripa playfully mocked herself and her family, referencing the iconic quote from Mean Girls, “What have you done? You’re not even supposed to be here,” as a witty jab at those questioning her winning the award.
In a friendly and amusing manner, Ripa conveyed her astonishment upon being bestowed the title of Disney Legend. She exclaimed, “It’s hard for me to believe!” She extended her gratitude to Disney CEO Bob Iger for providing her with an unforgettable, enchanting journey.
Previously, Ryan Seacrest – who used to share the host desk with Ripa on Live with Kelly and Ryan – presented her with an award during the ceremony, making the moment even more special. Notably, Seacrest, who left the show last year, got a touching on-stage reunion with Ripa.
In a heartfelt manner, she took advantage of the moment to express gratitude towards Seacrist and poke fun at his numerous hosting roles: “It’s wonderful to see you’ve discovered another show to host!”
Apart from expressing her admiration towards the other Disney Legends being celebrated, Ripa found the event quite extraordinary for herself. True to her humorous character, she added some wit by cracking jokes. Among them was a joking remark aimed at Iger: “I’ve been acquainted with Bob for an accidental 35 years, and he hasn’t shown a single sign of aging. So I’m curious about the secret behind that timeless ride.”
In addition, Ripa shared some personal stories about her relationship with Disney, explaining how it significantly impacted her life. She affectionately acknowledged her husband, Mark Consuelos, whom she first crossed paths with during their time together on the soap opera All My Children, which was broadcast by ABC – a network owned by Disney.
“Everything that I have achieved, both professionally and on a personal level, is due to The Walt Disney Company,” Ripa stated, mentioning her encounter with Consuelos, whom she affectionately called her “extremely attractive spouse.”
Ripa joked that their kids, Michael, Joaquin, and Lola, were actually created “behind the scenes” at the Disney studios.
