This Biblical Adaptation Is Tracking to Be This Christmas’ Biggest Animation at the Domestic Box Office, Outgrossing Even ‘Zootopia 2’

The new animated movie, David, is expected to be a big hit this Christmas, potentially earning between $23 and $28 million during its first weekend in US theaters. If it does, it will be the studio’s most successful opening weekend ever, beating the previous record held by Sound of Freedom.

The new animated film, David, is predicted to be more popular than other recent releases like Zootopia 2 and SpongeBob, becoming the highest-earning animated movie of the weekend in the US. Currently, Zootopia 2 has made $259 million in the US and $878 million internationally, totaling $1.137 billion worldwide.

The animated film ‘David,’ based on biblical stories, is surprisingly predicted to be the biggest animated hit this Christmas, potentially earning $23 to $28 million this weekend. This would be the best opening weekend ever for Angel Studios, exceeding the numbers for ‘Sound of Freedom.’ It’s even expected to perform better than ‘Zootopia,’ and…

The movie’s second release did better than expected over the Thanksgiving holiday, especially in China, where it made $271.6 million during its first weekend.

The animated film David tells the biblical story of the young shepherd boy who would become King of Israel, as found in the Book of Samuel. The movie focuses on David’s journey, facing danger from the Philistines and the formidable Goliath. Through his experiences, David shows his people that real strength comes from faith in God and the ability to live according to that belief, not just from a powerful ruler.

The voice cast of the film includes Phil Wickham as David, Brandon Engman as young David, Miri Mesika as Nitzevet, Sloan Muldown as Zeruiah, Ashley Boettcher as the teenage Zeruiah, Mark Jacobson as Jonathan, Adam Michael Gold as King Saul, Asim Chaudhry as King Achish, Mick Wingert as Zaydel, Will de Renzy-Martin as Vaizatha, Lauren Daigle as Rebecca, and Kamran Nikhad as Goliath.

David is a follow-up to the TV miniseries Young David, which recounted the early life of the biblical hero – his transformation from a shepherd into a brave warrior and leader. Angel Studios will release the movie in U.S. theaters on December 19th.

I’m still buzzing about the final trailer for ‘DAVID’ that came out yesterday! They finally let us hear Goliath speak – it was a funny moment, honestly. It feels so surreal to be involved with a movie that looks this amazing, especially knowing how much heart everyone poured into it. ‘DAVID’ hits theaters next week, December 19th, and I’m already planning my first viewing!
