As a lifestyle expert with a knack for dissecting celebrity experiences, it’s fascinating to delve into David Henrie’s journey as Ted from How I Met Your Mother. The burden of keeping such a significant secret must have been like carrying a time bomb, waiting to explode in the public eye.
David Henrie, best recognized for playing Ted and Tracy’s son on the hit CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, confessed that socializing in public became challenging due to fans swarming him and asking about the series finale’s storyline.
Henrie revealed that once he reached the age of 21 and started frequenting bars, he was given free drinks as a bribe, but he managed to keep this secret hidden from others. On the George Janko show podcast, Henrie discussed his role and shared insights about maintaining a significant secret for an extended period.
During an interview on the talk show, Henrie casually mentioned that in season 6 or 7, when he was around 21, people at bars would recognize him and say they knew the series ending. They even tried to entice him with free drinks in hopes he’d share the secret.
The actor disclosed that although viewers of the series had to endure a nine-season wait to discover who Ted ultimately chooses, he was informed of the outcome much earlier on in the production process, with the decision being made during the second season to film additional scenes for 90 more episodes. He explained to the interviewers, “They told me, ‘We need to wrap up this young character as quickly as possible. We need to produce as many episodes as we can.’
In the sitcom, Henrie’s character was situated in a future year, 2030. On the couch with his sister, they were engrossed in their father’s account of how he encountered their mother. While the on-screen character of Ted was brought to life by Josh Radnor, the narration from a later time was provided by Bob Saget.
While discussing the singing of the NDA agreement, a former Disney cast member shared, “On set, the two show creators unexpectedly entered and said, ‘Everyone out! Everyone out!'” He admitted, “The cameras kept rolling. They brought in confidentiality agreements, and I along with Lyndsy signed them. We were puzzled and asked, ‘What’s going on?’
They reply, ‘Here’s our prediction for how the series ends. This was a popular theory at the time, though we were only in season 2. They said, ‘We can’t be sure, but we need to find a way to tie it back to Robin.’
In the finale of How I Met Your Mother, events unfolded as planned by the creators. Following Tracy’s death from a long-term illness, Ted ultimately reunites with Robin using a blue French horn. You can catch up on all episodes of How I Met Your Mother on Disney+.
