As a dedicated fan who has followed Tyler Hilton’s journey since his days as Chris Keller on One Tree Hill, I must say that his recent revelations about his breakup with Bethany Joy are both heartbreaking and fascinating. The insight he provides into the complexities of their relationship, particularly the cult aspect, adds a layer of intrigue that makes their story even more compelling.
Tyler Hilton, famous for his role on One Tree Hill, discussed his split with girlfriend and costar Bethany Joy. He alleged that her devotees from her cult-like fanbase had him under suspicion (or “sussed” him out). Recently, in his memoir titled Dinner for Vampires, Hilton revealed his experiences as a member of the Big House Family, a group he was part of during the 2000s series.
In a fan-shared TikTok clip from one of his performances, the actor mentioned that the book discusses many personal matters, some of which he had also experienced with Joy during their time working together on the show’s second season. He further disclosed that they developed a strong friendship and grew even closer as they filmed the series. Hill also noted that their shared passion for music was what brought them together.
Reflecting on those days, I can’t help but reminisce about when I began crafting melodies with her and spending countless hours together. Over time, it became clear that our bond deepened, and before we knew it, we found ourselves developing genuine feelings for one another. We were inseparable, cherishing every moment spent together. However, as smoothly as our relationship seemed to be flowing, it eventually took an unexpected turn for the challenging.
It wasn’t until he noticed that she belonged to a religious group, that he had frequent deep conversations with, that he started picking up on ‘cult-ish’ vibes. He humorously admitted that his strong feelings for her prevented him from recognizing any issues with the organization at first.
He playfully said, “I quipped something like, ‘Man, I’m all for cults! That stuff doesn’t bother me at all. Oh, it’s nothing major. Yeah, lots of women are part of cults!'” The independent singer reminisced about the moment when his girlfriend mentioned that the group had to either endorse or scrutinize him. “They attended my performance, and they scrutinized me,” he asserted.
Due to the cult’s refusal, he found himself in a difficult predicament and was compelled to end their relationship. He had never experienced being dumped by a cult before, making this the first instance, leaving him with no other alternatives, he explained further.
