‘They Just Kinda Kicked Me Out’: John Stamos Recalls Why He Never Became A Part Of Scientology

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for celebrity stories and personal growth, I find John Stamos‘s anecdotes about his life experiences both captivating and relatable. His journey from a young boy working in his father’s restaurant to becoming a household name is nothing short of inspiring.

In a recent interview, John Stamos spoke candidly about an experience that led him to decide against joining the Church of Scientology.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the lead actor from Big Shot recently had a chat with Matt Friend on his “Friends in High Places” podcast, discussing an intriguing event connected to Scientology that he experienced.

In a acting lesson, Stamos mentioned that there was this attractive woman who told him about a gathering at a Hollywood Boulevard location following the class. She invited him to join afterwards. However, at that moment, Stamos was employed at his father’s restaurant and he had to decline due to work commitments.

In his explanation, the actor mentioned that he was around 16 or 17 years old at the time, and he went to the Scientology building located at that address. He also shared that he was summoned to the E-meter. Stamos then joked, mimicking an old-fashioned voice, “Here I am, holding these two cans, ‘Hello… Peabody in the Wayback Machine!'” referring to the characters Sherman and Peabody.

It seems the staff of Scientology didn’t appear to appreciate this situation. The actor admitted they disapproved and he was merely “being so reckless that they told me to leave, ‘Leave. Leave now.’ Essentially, they asked me to depart.” He has mentioned this same episode in his autobiography titled If You Would Have Told Me, which was published in 2023.

In the podcast discussion, he mentioned that a well-known Scientologist appeared to have influenced his decision to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, as this individual had his admiration.

One time, the actor mentioned receiving an invitation to tour a school gymnasium, where an unidentified movie was being filmed – a place that had connections through his father’s friendship.

He remembered, “It seemed like a dance, and I exclaimed, ‘What’s going on here?’, and then a group of people emerged, appearing to be high school students but they were as old as his father, and they were also dressed accordingly.”

The actor from Fuller House mentions that a 50s band was performing, yet they seemed to miss striking their musical instruments. He found this situation somewhat strange, yet he could still perceive the music playing.

In a surprising turn of events, the director shouted “Action!”, revealing none other than John Travolta through two opened doors. Standing on the set of Grease, I couldn’t help but feel a stirring within me as I watched him. I confessed later that day that I aspired to be like him – that is, to embody his charisma and talent. However, I must clarify that I do not wish for whatever it is that he may have had back then.
