‘They Don’t Need To Be Broken Up’: Danielle Fishel Talks About Other Ending For Her Character Topanga And Ben Savage On Boy Meets World

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for television and character development, I find Danielle Fishel‘s perspective on Boy Meets World’s ending intriguing. Having grown up watching the show and appreciating its progression, I can understand her desire to explore more stories about Cory and Topanga as an unmarried couple.

In a recent disclosure, actress Danielle Fishel, famously known for portraying Topanga on ‘Boy Meets World’, shared that, given the chance, she would not have her character marry Ben Savage’s (Cory Matthews) in the show.

In the most recent installment of the Boy Meets World revival podcast titled Pod Meets World, viewers posed their intriguing queries to the cast regarding the series. One curious fan was eager to learn from Fishel, Rider Strong, and Will Friedle what aspects they might alter in the television show.

Fishel shared that she wouldn’t have had Cory (Savage) and Topanga (Fishel) tie the knot initially. However, she imagined a scenario where they would still go through the proposal, possibly with him saying yes, followed by planning the wedding. But then, they might decide it wasn’t the best decision for them at that moment in time.

As a die-hard enthusiast, I’d rephrase it like this: “I’m totally on board with Fishel’s thoughts. Maybe they shouldn’t split up immediately; instead, let’s save the marriage drama for the grand finale and keep things interesting until the very end of the series!”

Friedle referred to her perspective as a “bold, contemporary viewpoint,” and Strong concurred, commenting that it was an unexpected take. Fishel shared that following her character’s marriage to Cory, the writers felt compelled to introduce more intense storylines, which she found less appealing. Instead, she believed there could have been more intriguing narratives developed around Cory and Topanga as a married couple but not yet at this stage in the series.

Friedle expressed his desire to retain the character Stuart Minkus, portrayed by Lee Norris, who primarily appeared in the first season and made a comeback in season 5. He felt there was ample room for humor if Minkus were included as part of the main group with Fishel, Strong, and Savage’s characters, suggesting potential comedic opportunities.

He expressed that there was plenty of humor to be found in that situation, and the bond among the four friends, particularly their friendship group, seemed ripe for comedy. Unfortunately, he believes they overlooked a significant amount of potential humor by removing Lee from the group.

Additionally, Friedle expressed his wish to continue working with Anthony Tyler Quinn, who portrayed Jonathan Turner, for a longer period. Quinn was part of the series from 1994 to 1997 and reconnected with the cast in Girl Meets World. Likewise, Strong concurred with Friedle, acknowledging Norris’ acting skills, but believed that having Quinn around would have made the subsequent seasons feel more realistic and rooted.

Boy Meets World is available to stream on Disney+ and ABC Networks.
