These Monsters Appear in MONARCH Season 2, Episode 1

After just one episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season two, the show has already featured a lot of monsters, both familiar faces and brand new creatures. The premiere episode, “Cause and Effect,” introduces several of these new monsters, but it starts with a welcome return of a major star from the Monsterverse: Kong!

Kong

Wow, the first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters ended with a huge cliffhanger! Cate, May, and Keiko actually stepped out of Axis Mundi right into our world – 2017, to be exact – and where did they end up? Skull Island! You know, Kong’s home. They even teased a seriously upset Titan at the very end. So, does Kong show up in season two? Absolutely! The first episode kicks off with Kong going absolutely wild on a Monarch facility on Skull Island. And let me tell you, he’s not thrilled about these people messing around on his turf.

The episode opens with chaos on Skull Island as Kong attacks a Monarch research team. Dozens of employees are seen running for their lives as Kong rampages, easily destroying vehicles and killing people with his fists and by stepping on those trying to escape. The main characters barely manage to get away in a helicopter, with Kong roaring in fury as they leave. We then learn that sixteen people were killed in the attack. One character explains that Kong views Skull Island as his territory and tolerates the human presence only as long as they don’t cause trouble.

The Electrical Dragon/Bat

Later in the episode, May, Cate, and Kentaro disobey orders and return to Skull Island to save Lee Shaw from Axis Mundi. While traveling through the jungle, they encounter a creature resembling a smaller dragon from Game of Thrones, which breathes electricity like Godzilla. They manage to stay hidden as the creature hunts, devouring a giant worm before flying off.

The Weasel Beast

The team enters an old control room on the island, echoing the tense kitchen scene from Jurassic Park (and recently referenced in Stranger Things). Inside, they encounter a strange creature resembling a deformed weasel with a shedding face and a large, rat-like tail. It moves on all fours and is ultimately killed when Kentaro traps it against a wall with a forklift.

The Boar with Antlers

In the movie Axis Mundi, an aged Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell) has a frightening encounter with a massive, boar-like creature in the forest. This beast isn’t just large—it’s enormous, about the size of a Stegosaurus—and it has deer antlers. Just as the creature is about to attack, Shaw’s friends try to rescue him by sending a rescue pod. The sudden arrival of the pod scares the beast away, but unfortunately, something else hitches a ride inside the pod with Shaw, and it’s something truly terrifying.

The Crab Bug

As Shaw raced toward the Monarch rescue pod, he was pursued by dozens of dog-sized, crab-like creatures. He fought most of them off, but one managed to get inside with him. The creature, which had a massive mouth full of sharp teeth, almost killed him before Shaw could stab it and escape.

The Giant Flea

Just before escaping Axis Mundi, Shaw witnesses a colossal Titan break free from what appears to be a mountain. While its face remains obscured, the creature has numerous spiked tentacles, each incredibly wide – about the length of a football field. This dangerous monster, resembling a gigantic flea, follows Shaw through the portal and enters our world. It briefly clashes with Kong before fleeing into the ocean.

This is only the start of the story. A new monster, Titan X, is lurking, and Godzilla will likely return soon as well. We’re excited to see what challenges season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters brings.
