The Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t truly take off until after Iron Man finished, when Nick Fury unexpectedly showed up at Tony Stark’s home. Since then, both mid and post-credit scenes have become common features of the franchise. They often hint at upcoming movies, stories, or characters. Other times they provide an amusing extra bit of entertainment. However, on some rare instances, these end-credits scenes haven’t led to anything yet – although that might change in the future. Which ones are we referring to? These are all the MCU’s end-credit scenes that have yet to receive a payoff.
Note: Some scenes at the end of films, such as the thrilling moment in The Marvels, haven’t had their impact fully realized yet. For example, Blade appearing during Eternals, Clea arriving in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Zeus ordering Hercules to attack Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder, and the Council of Kangs summoning soldiers in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It’s expected that these scenes will eventually prove significant.
Doctor Strange: Karl Mordo says “there are too many sorcerers” in the world.
In the movie “Multiverse of Madness”, the character Karl Mordo was not the same as the one from the first “Doctor Strange” film. Instead, we saw a variant of Baron Mordo from another universe. The original Mordo of Earth-616 hasn’t been seen in the franchise since he took away Jonathan Pangborn’s magic during the end credits scene back in 2016. Meanwhile, the Scarlet Witch wiped out countless sorcerers with a single attack in “Multiverse of Madness”, leading one to wonder if Mordo found a new pastime after that massacre.
When Can We Expect the End-Credits Scene in Doctor Strange 3 to Deliver on Its Promise, Given That It Features a Sorcerer Known to Hate?
Spider-Man: Homecoming: Adrian Toomes and Mac Gargan talk Spider-Man’s identity.
In the movie “No Way Home”, Peter Parker’s existence was seemingly erased from everyone’s memory, leaving the post-credits scene from his first MCU standalone movie, “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, unresolved. This bonus scene showed Mac Gargan questioning Adrian Toomes about Spider-Man’s true identity in prison, with Toomes lying about his knowledge in a significant moment. However, seven years later, it appears that this plot thread may be revisited, as Michael Mando’s character, Scorpion, is set to join the MCU for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”. Nevertheless, given the long gap since the original post-credits scene, we’ll only truly believe it when we see it unfold on screen.
Could we expect the resolution of the end-credits scene from Spider-Man: Brand New Day anytime soon? The film seems to hint at a possible conclusion, but its connection to the Sony Sinister Six movie remains debatable, causing much discussion about whether it truly aligns with the MCU.
Speaking of unfinished Spider-Man movie business…
Spider-Man: No Way Home: Eddie Brock leaves a piece of the Venom symbiote behind on Earth-616.
No Way Home. However, since there’s uncertainty about whether Spider-Man will return to the MCU, this fragment might be all we may get in terms of Venom.
In what timeframe might the post-credits scene offer a satisfying payoff for viewers? It could be when both Sony and Marvel have managed to satisfy their respective shareholders.
Eternals: Eros and Pip arrive to offer help.
The movie “Eternals” concluded with a colossal deceased cosmic entity emerging from the sea. Remarkably, no character in Earth-616 has ever referred to this event since then, giving off an eerie sense of it never having taken place at all. It’s almost as if the Marvel Cinematic Universe deliberately ignores the existence of “Eternals.” Who knows whether we’ll encounter Harry Styles reprising his role as Eros, Thanos’ brother, again? (Perhaps Pip might receive a CGI upgrade in case of a sequel. Quite the ordeal.)
Could we potentially see this post-credits scene’s payoff when the Fantastic Four movie introduces Galactus?
Moon Knight: “Jake Lockley” kills Arthur Harrow.
In my perspective as a movie critic, I must say that the intriguing first season of “Moon Knight” left us hanging with the tantalizing possibility of an additional, unknown personality for both Marc Spector and Steven Grant. The nail-biting climax, hidden in the end credits, revealed the existence of Jake Lockley when Khonshu summoned his fearsome alter ego to eliminate Arthur Harrow. This revelation served as a tantalizing cliffhanger for a potential second season or an expanded role for Oscar Isaac within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Regrettably, the fate of Moon Knight in the MCU remains uncertain, leaving us with the bitter taste that Marc Spector’s journey might have reached its end.
Will it be the day when the end-credits scene in Moon Knight finally pays off? We’re keeping our fingers crossed, as we eagerly anticipate the possibility of another thrilling season.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: Bruce Banner and Carol Danvers examine the Ten Rings.
As an ardent admirer, I couldn’t help but notice that Simu Liu’s performance in “Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings” in 2021 seemed destined to catapult him into one of the MCU’s brightest stars. The post-credits scene, where Carol Danvers and Bruce Banner scrutinized his enigmatic, ancient Ten Rings, which were also emitting a cryptic space signal, was a clear hint at the character’s future significance within the franchise. It was a moment that promised something monumental was on the horizon. However, since then, Shang-Chi has been conspicuously absent from the scene, even in “The Marvels,” a film centered around ancient magical artifacts. Bruce Banner extended a warm welcome to Shang-Chi to the “circus,” but it appears he forgot to provide directions to the big top.
In what scenario might the payoff for the end-credits scene be realized? Perhaps when Shang-Chi 2 is produced, or if there’s a reminder that Shang-Chi still exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: Xu Xialing takes over her father’s organization.
If Shang-Chi manages to find the circus address, it would be beneficial for him to inform his sister Xu Xialing about it. In her own end-credits scene, we saw that she had assumed control over their father’s powerful and secretive organization. Since then, she has kept the organization’s activities under wraps, so we haven’t heard much from her.
Under what circumstances might this post-credits scene receive its due resolution? Given the possibility of a future film, the Ten Rings organization seems like a perfect fit for the upcoming “Thunderbolts” project. Similarly, the character we’ll discuss next would also align well with that team.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier: The pardoned Sharon Carter is the Power Broker.
In the series finale of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” we spent quite some time trying to uncover the real Power Broker’s identity, but it wasn’t until the U.S. government reinstated Sharon Carter that the truth was finally revealed. Yet, it turned out that Peggy’s brave niece didn’t abandon her criminal organization simply because she received a pardon. Instead, we’re left wondering who she was discussing access to confidential documents with. Unfortunately, that person’s identity remains a mystery, and we’ve been eagerly waiting to find out for quite some time now. We’re also unsure how long it will take for this enigma to be resolved.
Could we ever see a satisfying resolution from the post-credits scenes in ‘Thunderbolts’ and ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, given their rich connections to numerous characters within these universes?
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: Wong frees Emil Blonsky.
In the world of Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’ve been witnessing an intriguing transformation unfolding. You know the character Abomination from the early phases? Well, it appears he’s undergone a significant change while serving time in prison. He’s been working through his rage issues, thanks to some help along the way.
Interestingly, we’ve seen him being transported out of prison by none other than the Sorcerer Supreme, Wong. This was hinted at during the action-packed scenes of Shang-Chi, where he seemed to be part of an underground fight club. However, his return to jail following a parole violation meant another visit from Wong, but this time for good.
In the post-credits scene, Abomination found himself at Kamar-Taj. The question is, why the sudden change of scenery? At this point, the only plausible answer seems to be friendship, given that it’s unclear if or when this storyline will develop further in the MCU. It sure does leave us on the edge of our seats!
At What Point Might We See a Resolution for the Cameo Scenes Featuring Wong Across the MCU, Given His Popularity Spans Universally?
