James Van Der Beek, famous for his roles in One Tree Hill and Dawson’s Creek, has shared with PEOPLE that he has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. He revealed, “I have colorectal cancer. I’ve been managing this diagnosis quietly and have been making progress to tackle it, with the help of my wonderful family.” The actor expressed positivity, stating, “There’s reason for hope, and I’m feeling well at the moment.

As a dedicated follower, I’d like to share some insights about colorectal cancer – a type of cancer that can impact the colon, rectum, or even extend towards the intestines, as reported by the American Cancer Society. Remarkably, James Van Der Beek has continued his professional journey despite receiving this diagnosis. He recently graced our screens in an episode of Walker and is set to shine in Sidelined: The QB and Me, a highly anticipated Tubi original film slated for release on November 29.

Besides his acting career, the actor has been dedicating significant time to his family, consisting of his wife Kimberly Van Der Beek and their six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah. In June, they embarked on a vacation to Egypt, filling their Instagram account with numerous photos from their memorable trip.

#Egypt left me speechless more often than not. The enchanting sights we witnessed were like nothing I’ve ever encountered before, and I’m still trying to make sense of it all – a process that may continue for the remainder of my life,” he expressed in his caption.

He also shared that his children were like rock stars in his life, and his friends felt more like brothers to him. “Even with all the jet-setting, time zone changes, and early wake-up calls, I feel revitalized,” he continued. Come December, this actor will appear on a unique program titled The Real Full Monty, where famous males shed their clothes to promote prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer screenings and research.
