‘There’s No Controlling the Internet’: Deadpool & Wolverine Director Opens Up About Taylor Swift’s Cameo Rumors

As a dedicated fan who has been following Taylor Swift’s journey from Nashville to the big screen, I must admit that the Deadpool & Wolverine movie rumors had me absolutely spellbound! The intricate web of connections between Taylor and the film’s team – Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Shawn Levy – left me on the edge of my seat, eagerly speculating about her potential roles like Dazzler or Lady Deadpool.

There’s been a buzz among Marvel enthusiasts and Taylor Swift fans about the possibility of her being involved in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie. The potential link to the film’s crew – Ryan Reynolds, who stars, writes, and produces; Blake Lively, Reynolds’ wife and Swift’s friend; and Shawn Levy, the director who collaborated with Swift on her All Too Well short film – has fueled rumors. Furthermore, some promotional materials for the film seem to mirror themes from Swift’s Eras tour and friendship bracelets.

On the contrary, Entertainment Weekly has dispelled those rumors, making it clear that Taylor Swift won’t be in the movie. There were whispers about her potential roles like Dazzler or Lady Deadpool, but the main stars of Deadpool and Wolverine haven’t responded to these whispers. Regardless, the speculation helped generate excitement for the film.

Shawn Levy has spoken out about the rumors linking Taylor Swift to the movie ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ after its release. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he acknowledged that there was a lot of excitement surrounding the possibility of Swift playing Dazzler, but admitted that she never had any involvement in the film. Despite his personal connections to Taylor Swift through Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, her participation was never even discussed.

In simpler terms, Levy explained, “There was never any discussion about the issue, neither a conversation nor even a hint of one. Ryan, Blake, and myself all have our own connections with Taylor, but the rumors circulating were quite puzzling. Nothing I could say or do seemed to silence them until the movie’s release.”

On her Instagram Stories, Taylor Swift complimented Hugh Jackman’s commitment to the movie, expressing, “Over the last few years, I’ve observed one of my closest friends pour all his heart, soul, effort, time, laughter, tears, rebellion, shadows, and enchantment into this film. He’s produced a masterpiece, and this movie feels like a gateway to pure joy, a thrilling escape from the ordinary world, and a delightful sandwich of absurdity. I can’t fathom how he managed it.” She jokingly poked fun at her friend by saying, “But that’s just Hugh being Hugh!” instead of explicitly mentioning Reynolds.

It was anticipated by viewers that some unconventional characters might show up in Deadpool & Wolverine, with Kidpool potentially being portrayed by Walker Scobell, who is recognized for his work in The Adam Project and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. However, despite Scobell being a suitable choice for the character, his recent growth spurt created complications that made casting him logistically challenging.

Contrary to some expectations, the movie offers a lot of thrills. Chris Evans once again plays Johnny Storm, a character he portrayed in the Fantastic Four, and Wesley Snipes unexpectedly appears as Blade after a message from Reynolds. Dafne Keen reprises her role as Laura/X-23 too.

Deadpool & Wolverine is now playing in theaters.
