‘There’s A Relevancy’: Natalie Wood’s Daughter Is ‘Proud’ Of The Impact Her Mother Continues To Have Years After Her Tragic Death

As a child who lost her beloved mother far too soon, I can wholeheartedly attest to the indelible impact of Natalie Wood’s legacy. Forty-three years have passed since that fateful night, yet her relevance remains undiminished, as if she’s been beaming timeless wisdom from the silver screen into our hearts and minds.

Forty-three years have passed since the death of actress Natalie Wood, yet her daughter Natasha Gregson Wagner believes she remains significant and relevant in today’s world. In an interview with People magazine, Wagner expressed awe at her mother’s enduring legacy. “It’s astonishing that there’s still relevance to her after all these years,” she stated. “People seem to feel they knew her or have this sense of guardianship towards her,” she continued.

In 2020, Wood published an intimate memoir titled “More Than Love.” Reflecting on this, Natasha shared, “At book signings and tours, I see how many people are drawn to talk about my mother. I feel a sense of pride knowing she was able to make such an impression on so many. It seems that wherever Wood lived her life, she intended to touch the hearts of others.

When Natasha was eleven, her mother, an actress, sadly drowned on November 29, 1981. This event deeply affected the young girl, but after almost thirty years, she has spoken openly about her grief and worked diligently to preserve her mother’s memory.

Following the publication of my memoir, I collaborated on an HBO documentary honoring my mother, titled “Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind.” This poignant production delved into my mother’s life, both on-screen and off, offering a unique perspective. In this film, I conducted interviews with her stepfather, Robert Wagner, focusing on the fateful night of my mother’s tragic incident.

10 years ago, if someone had told Natasha she’d be doing what she is now, she would have found it hard to believe because she aspired to follow a path distinct from her mother’s. However, as time passed, she accepted the journey the universe planned for her.

Natasha expressed her ongoing amazement to a media outlet about how Wood’s projects such as Rebel Without a Cause, Splendor in the Grass, West Side Story, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, and numerous others are still often discussed as timeless classics in Hollywood. She described these films as ones that have significantly impacted people’s lives.
