Theory Explains How Thanos Could Return to the MCU in the Upcoming ‘Avengers’ Movies

As a fan who’s witnessed the rise and fall (and rise again) of countless heroes and villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I can confidently say that the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” are shaping up to be two of the most highly anticipated films yet. The return of the Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr., along with the potential comeback of Thanos, has sent a thrill down the spine of every MCU enthusiast out there.

Upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films titled Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for release on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, will reportedly tie up loose ends and lead the MCU into an entirely fresh, uncharted era. These blockbusters are anticipated to be massive successes, with fans eagerly hoping that they deliver as promised.

In these upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films, they’ve reunited with the Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr., and while Doctor Doom serves as the primary antagonist, it’s quite likely we’ll see a previous MCU foe resurface once more.

Absolutely! Given all that transpired, it’s quite plausible that Thanos could reappear in future films. We’ve stumbled upon an intriguing hypothesis regarding his comeback, which promises to offer a fresh perspective on the character, offering new insights into who he truly is. Keep an eye out for more details!

Recently, in an article we published, Josh Brolin was questioned about reprising his role as Thanos in future films. Here’s the response he gave:

I’m not kidding — There’s a thing with playing Thanos. It’s like, ‘Oh, they’re gonna bring Thanos back.’ It’s like Sicario; it has to be right. It’s like Ryan Reynolds and I talking about Taylor Swift and we should be talking about Deadpool 4. But we go back and forth. Again, it’s what in his mind fits, what in my mind fits. Thanos has to fit if you’re going to bring him back. I would do anything that the Russos wanted me to do.

This is just a heads-up for all, Thanos may return given the multiverse-spanning storyline of the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We stumbled upon an intriguing theory that could shed light on how and in what role he might reappear.

As an ardent Marvel fan, I ponder whether Thanos could make a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). If he does, it might be in the future installments like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Now, this is just speculation, but if this theory holds true, we may witness a heart-wrenching end for Thanos – a gruesome death involving the removal of his skull and spine.

Thanos could also appear in What if…? Season 3 or Eternals 2.

As a gamer, I’m nearly convinced that when they introduce Thanos to the Avengers, he won’t be the antagonist. In fact, I believe he’s destined to become a hero. Here’s why: From the get-go, Thanos was a champion who fought for the universe’s “liberty.” Moreover, there are theories that Thanos is aiming to thwart baddies like Galactus, Silver Surfer, and Doctor Doom. It would be intriguing if we got to witness him go head-to-head with Dr. Doom, but this time, Thanos would be the hero, and it’s Doom who takes on the villain role.

This is actually something that we can support. The notion that Thanos will come back as a hero, i.e., an enemy of Doctor Doom makes sense. Doom is a much more destructive power than Thanos, as Thanos simply wanted to see a more sustainable world, at least when the MCU is concerned. In light of that, if the two of them clash, there is an ample opportunity to bring back the epic moment when Emperor Doom kills Thanos on the screen, and ultimately unite Thanos with Lady Death in the MCU, seeing how the latter made her debut in Agatha All Along.

This would be one amazing example of storytelling, and we would definitely love to see it happen.
