The Woman In Daemon’s Creepy Sex Vision Is Actually His Mom on HOUSE OF THE DRAGON

As a longtime fan of the Targaryen dynasty in George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, I’ve grown particularly intrigued by the complex character of Daemon Targaryen in the new “House of the Dragon” show. With his fiery temper, magnetic charm, and deep-seated resentments, Daemon is a captivating figure.

During the episode “Regent” of House of the Dragon, Daemon Targaryen’s disturbing dreams persisted. In this latest nightmare, Daemon imagined himself intimately involved with a different member of his House, an unusual situation even for a family known for their incestuous marriages. Daemon’s dream took a more unsettling turn as he experienced an Oedipal nightmare – or so we hope he views it as such – where he was involved in a sexual encounter with his deceased mother, Alyssa Targaryen.

Who Did Daemon Have Sex With During His Nightmare on House of the Dragon?

In the fifth episode of the second season of “House of the Dragon,” Daemon Targaryen experienced a vivid, unsettling (to put it mildly) erotic dream about his late mother. Initially, he wasn’t aware of her identity in the dream. Once he recognized her, however, his elation gave way to fear and astonishment.

This is what Alyssa Targaryen said during the nightmare:

Daemon, you’ve always stood out for your strength. An exceptional swordsman and fearless dragon rider. Your brother had plenty of love within him, but he couldn’t match your resilience. Viserys was ill-equipped to rule, but you, Daemon, were born for the throne. If only we had switched places in birth order. My favorite son.

In his most recent dream at Harrenhal, Daemon found himself having lunch with the Strong family members. The gory image of his mother’s chest bearing blood in the dream wasn’t originating from his own hands. Instead, it was coming from the bloodied duck on his fork – a bizarre fusion of dreams and reality experienced by the King Consort.

Who Was Daemon and Viserys’ Mother Alyssa Targaryen?

I’m a huge fan of the Targaryen dynasty, and I love delving into their rich history. I’m particularly intrigued by Alyssa Targaryen, who was born some 69 years prior to the infamous Dance of the Dragons. Being the fifth child of the wise King Jaehaerys and his graceful Queen Alysanne, they bestowed upon her a beautiful name – Alyssa, in honor of her beloved grandmother.

Alyssa wed her elder brother Baelon the Valiant, momentarily in line for the Iron Throne prior to his demise due to appendicitis. (Baelon is likewise the supposed father of Ulf the White of House Targaryen as claimed on “House of the Dragon”.) Alyssa and Baelon welcomed three offspring: Viserys, Daemon, and a distinct child named Aegon who perished before his first birthday.

Growing up, Alyssa enjoyed passing her days sword fighting, horseback riding, and engaging with boys instead of girls’ company and traditional feminine pastimes expected of a Westeros Lady or Princess. To onlookers, the bold and intelligent Alyssa embodied the essence of a warrior. In her own mind, she saw herself as equal in rowdiness to any tavern maid from King’s Landing.

The sensational reports of their wedding night bolstered her statement. Witnesses claimed the noises from Baelon and Alyssa’s bedroom echoed throughout the surrounding areas. She was open about her delight in their intimate moments and expressed her intention to relish numerous such experiences together. Moreover, she conveyed her aspiration to bear twenty sons to Baelon.

How Did Daemon’s Mother Alyssa Targaryen Die?

I gave life to Viserys, my future king, back in 77 AC. Four years after that, Daemon entered the world in 81 AC. But my body couldn’t endure another labor as grueling as Aegon’s birth in 84 AC. Sadly, at just 24 years old, I took my last breath, leaving them both too soon. My eldest son, Aegon, didn’t even make it to his first nameday. Viserys was seven when I departed this world, and Daemon was only three.

Was Alyssa Targaryen a Dragonrider?

I was thrilled to be the one who first mounted Meleys, the swift she-dragon. This momentous occasion took place in the very same year I exchanged marriage vows with my brother. Meleys and I became an unbreakable duo in the skies. It’s worth mentioning that Baelon also rode Vhagar, the dragon that would ultimately claim the lives of both Meleys and Rhaenys, who was her only other rider before me.

After welcoming her newborn sons, Viserys and Daemon, into the world, Alyssa often rode with each of them on Meleys not long after their births. However, it’s clear which boy inherited her fierce dragonrider warrior soul: Daemon.

What Did Daemon’s Oedipal Dream About His Mom Mean on House of the Dragon?

Daemon harbored both affection and resentment toward his deceased brother Viserys. He felt that Viserys was insufficient for the kingship role and believed he himself would have made a better king, had he been born first. Moreover, Daemon remained bitter over Viserys’ decision to name Rhaenyra as heir instead of him, despite Westeros’ laws and historical precedent favoring Daemon. Deep down, Daemon yearned for his family’s love and approval but recognized that his impulsive, self-centered, and ambitious nature made it impossible for them to fully trust him.

In this dream, Alyssa, who was like a mother to him, granted him all his desires. She affirmed his sense of being superior and reinforced his conviction that he had been unfairly treated by destiny and the Seven Realms when they denied him the Iron Throne. Moreover, she expressed her preference for Daemon over others, offering him the affection he deeply longed for.

I once had an unforgettable dream that seemed too good to be true, as if it had been crafted just for me, the passionate gamer. But upon waking up, I was jolted back to reality when I discovered the horrifying truth: I was intimately involved with a woman who looked exactly like my own deceased mother, someone I couldn’t even recall. Even if Targaryens were known for marrying their siblings, or if Daemon himself had wed his own niece, no man, not even one of fire and blood, would dare cross that line. Such a nightmare is beyond the realms of imagination. But why did I have such a disturbing dream in the first place? It’s a question that continues to haunt me.

Did Alys Rivers Cause Daemon’s Dream About His Mom on House of the Dragon?

Prior to “Regent,” on “House of the Dragon,” there was speculation over what triggers Daemon’s nightmares. Is it his troubled mind, his insecurities? Could it be Haarenhal’s curse? Or is it Alys Rivers, our beloved owl-witch, simply being observant and reading people? Or does she possess deeper knowledge of Daemon due to her role as more than just the castle’s temporary maester?

In the episode, her casual remark about Daemon’s mother could have suggested that she possesses magical powers or extraordinary knowledge. It might seem like a mere coincidence that she made this comment, especially considering Daemon’s past transgressions which may have left him in need of maternal care. Alternatively, her statement could be a clear indication that she is aware of his bizarre dreams, perhaps because she has the ability to induce them or read minds.

As a long-time fan of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, I can’t help but be intrigued by the ongoing mystery surrounding Daemon Blackfyre and Alys Karstark. Based on my extensive reading and analysis of the text, I believe there is still much to discover about their relationship and whether Alys holds influence over Daemon’s troubled psyche.
