The White Lotus Season 3: Producers ‘Distributed Fake Endings’ For the Show to Leak-Proof the True Finale

The creators of “The White Lotus” consistently anticipate and counter potential spoilers by several steps. Fans are familiar with the series’ eccentric and surprising plot twists, but in an unexpected move, the producers orchestrated a significant practical joke to ensure the show’s finale remains undisclosed and free from leaks.

During an interview with People Magazine, David Bernad, the show producer, shared insights on how he and The White Lotus creator, Mike White, ensured their plot remained a secret. He disclosed that they had prepared multiple false conclusions for the scripts. In other words, they wrote six distinct endings and distributed some of these fictitious endings to various individuals as a precaution in case there was a leak. This way, if something got leaked, they could claim that there were different fake endings available.

Bernad clarifies that in order to film the genuine finale, they needed to secure the entire set so only those linked to the show could view it. He further elaborates, “During the shooting of the final scene, the set was under lockdown. So, no one outside our team had any insight into what we were filming and no non-White Lotus cast members would ever witness our work.

Jon Gries, the actor who played Jennifer Coolidge’s husband in Season 2, went to great lengths to keep his role in Season 3 a secret. Instead of flying for just 45 minutes from Phuket to Bangkok in Thailand, he opted to travel by bus for 12 hours, carrying his equipment with him, all to avoid being discovered by others.

It turned out that attempting to conceal the show resulted in some individuals at Four Seasons, where White Lotus is filmed, receiving an unintentional tour of the season 3 set. As Bernad explained, “There were people peeking and recording from a room. They didn’t realize they were capturing sensitive footage, and I was quite anxious that they would share it online.” To remedy the situation, they invited the guests to linger on the set and be a part of the experience, hoping this would persuade them to erase all the footage they had taken.

It seems that the producers and the show have had a successful run so far. As the season finale draws near on April 6th, there’s a sense of mystery about what lies ahead, with everyone left guessing.
