The White Lotus Creator Reacts to Former Composer of the Show Talking ‘S–t’ About Him: ‘He Thought I Was a Chimp’

In simpler terms, “The White Lotus” is an unpredictable series that can take unexpected turns in just a few seconds. Interestingly enough, the drama behind the scenes is as captivating as the plot twists on the show itself. Last week, Cristobal Tapia De Veer, the composer for The White Lotus, spoke candidly to The New York Times about his departure from the popular HBO series and his alleged conflict with the show’s creator, Mike White.

Previously, White addressed the accusations made by De Veer during his conversation with Howard Stern. De Veer insinuated they had a major disagreement before departing from the program. However, White refuted these assertions, stating to Stern, “We never truly fought, except perhaps in some emails.

I can’t help but feel betrayed by his actions, and I couldn’t help but express my dismay when he made those remarks. To make matters worse, he seemed to stand firm in his claims, stating that he knew all along he wasn’t a team player and preferred to do things his way. It left me utterly shocked when he chose to air his grievances against me and the show three days before the finale in The New York Times.

Following his departure after Season 3, De Veer shared with The New York Times that he and the show’s creator had a dispute concerning the theme song of the show. Specifically, De Veer wished to publish the extended version of the main theme, which encompassed the beloved melody from earlier seasons, but this idea was allegedly opposed by the creator.

White expressed disappointment in the way De Veer seemed to look down on him, remarking, “He would often give me a disdainful smirk, as if I was no more than an amusing oddity.” Yet, at 54 years old, White acknowledged that his ex-colleague possesses great talent. He added, however, “I’ve never gone out of my way to curry favor with anyone just to get them to help me, not even for something as simple as leading a horse to water.” In conclusion, White extended his best wishes to De Veer for whatever future endeavors he pursues.
