The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Faces Backlash For ‘Weird’ Age Gap Between Five And Lila; DEETS

As a die-hard fan of The Umbrella Academy, I must admit, this latest season has left me quite perplexed! The love triangle involving Five, Lila, and Diego is a twist that I never saw coming, and it’s stirred up quite the storm among fans.

The latest installment of The Umbrella Academy just premiered on Netflix, yet it’s stirring up some debate. What left fans in a state of shock was an unexpected love triangle featuring two members of the Hargreaves clan.

In the fourth season, characters Five, portrayed by Aidan Gallagher, and Lila, played by Ritu Arya, find themselves stuck in a time loop that lasts seven years. As they collaborate to unravel a secretive organization, their bond deepens into a romantic relationship. This unexpected plot development took many viewers by surprise since Lila was previously married to Five’s brother, Diego (David Castañeda), and they shared a family together.

In my line of advising people on lifestyle matters, I often emphasize the importance of considering all factors when navigating relationships. In this unique scenario, Five met Lila at a young age, but life took an extraordinary turn for him. He found himself displaced in time, reappearing as an 18-year-old, although his true age was 64. This unexpected twist certainly raised some questions and concerns, but it’s essential to remember that every relationship has its own dynamics and challenges.

Social media users voiced their dissatisfaction, critiquing the plotline. Some found the portrayal of Five and Lila’s relationship problematic and disapproved of how it influenced Five’s dynamic with Diego. On the other hand, others were frustrated that the series concluded with a strained friendship between Diego and Five due to the romantic entanglement.

David Castañeda openly shared in an interview with Us Weekly that he felt disappointed when Lila picked Five over Diego. He voiced his displeasure to the showrunner, Steve Blackman, which made filming those scenes challenging for him. Interestingly, Castañeda and Arya, who portrays Lila on the show, are actually a couple off-screen as well.

In my own words, as a committed follower, I shared with the media: “To be honest, I was utterly confused and infuriated. I’ve had conversations with our showrunner, Steve Blackman, asking, ‘Is this truly necessary?’ I couldn’t help but feel that it wasn’t enjoyable.”

“He expressed to Five, ‘I’ve been arguing with Steven over the match outcome, saying, “Diego will surely win, won’t he?” You have your reasons, I understand. But let’s be honest here. Are you seriously betting on Diego? With that delicious-looking cake at stake?'”

Blackman justified the move by explaining that since Five is an older man in a youthful body, a love story was necessary to his character development. He recognized that this might not sit well with everyone, but felt it was a suitable plotline for him. Regardless of differing opinions, he deemed the on-screen kiss between Five and Lila as spot-on.

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
