As a devoted fan who has closely followed the twists and turns of The Umbrella Academy, I must say that this latest season has left me absolutely spellbound! The plot developments have been nothing short of captivating, from Form and Lila parting ways to Reginald achieving his ambitions in the new timeline.
The much-loved Netflix show, “The Umbrella Academy,” which centers around superheroes with a dark side, is wrapping up with its fourth season. This series, recognized for its mix of action, emotion, and wit, has amassed a dedicated following thanks to three apocalypses and numerous unexpected twists. The third season left viewers in awe, and the fourth season is intended to answer the questions posed by the show’s surprising and somber finale.
In the third season of my devotion to The Umbrella Academy, we once again found ourselves battling an apocalypse, this time orchestrated by our father, Reginald, who deceived us into altering the timeline for his selfish gain, disregarding the profound connection among his adopted offspring. As we embark on Season 4, the Hargreeves family and Lila will grapple with a reality dominated by Reginald. With the series reaching its climax, it’s essential to remember some pivotal instances before we bring this journey to an end.
1. Sloane is missing
Luther’s personality has undergone considerable transformation since the first season. In the third season, he forms a wholesome relationship with Sloane that brings together both groups. Regrettably, Reginald takes advantage of this romance by murdering Luther, leading Sloane and the others into Hotel Oblivion.
Luther and Sloane, who were married prior to the apocalypse, experienced a devastating double tragedy when Luther was killed by Reginald, and Sloane disappeared in the altered timeline. The enigma surrounding Sloane’s presence in this new reality—either she was wiped out by Allison or lives elsewhere—stays unsolved, leaving viewers puzzled.

2. Allison killed Reginald and reset the timeline
In Season 3, Allison’s transformation into a villain is prompted by her desire to be closer to Claire since the beginning of the series. However, the apocalypse and the turbulent 1960s prevented this connection. Her sorrow and anger intensify when she learns that Claire isn’t her biological daughter in the Sparrow timeline. These powerful emotions drive her actions, which, though drastic, originate from her profound emotional distress.
Despite the details of Allison’s agreement with Reginald remaining unclear, she adhered to it until he activated the machine. Ignorant of the machine’s ability to harm her siblings and their marigolds, she eventually took Reginald’s life before the timeline rewind was finished. She implored her siblings to put their trust in her again, but only she was successful in achieving her intended goal.
3. Five learned that he was the founder of the Commission
In The Umbrella Academy’s third season, it’s unveiled that Five is actually the one who established The Commission, an organization tasked with controlling and directing the flow of time. Following a power grab in Season 2, Herb temporarily took over as chair until fresh leadership could be selected. Unfortunately, the Commission didn’t last long.
In the third season, characters Five and Lila confront a temporal conundrum and venture to The Commission’s main office, but find it devastated instead. Upon entering, they stumble upon an elderly man bearing a secretive tattoo and lacking an arm, imprisoned within an oxygen tank. It is later revealed that this individual is the founder of The Commission and an older incarnation of Five from future timelines. Unfortunately, the origins of The Commission remain unexplored in the Umbrella Academy narrative.
4. The Hargreeves are powerless
In this revised version of The Umbrella Academy storyline, Regulus (Reginald) and Abigail are thriving, possessing significant influence, whereas the Hargreeves siblings and Lila have found themselves powerless. Luther, who met his end at the hands of Regulus prior to the apocalypse, reappears in a human form instead of his former ape-like upper body. It’s yet undetermined if Luther’s resurrection stems from Allison’s intervention or is part of Regulus’ scheme.
Five’s missing arm has grown back, and Diego’s cut fingers have healed too, but this regeneration means they’ve lost their special abilities. Now devoid of powers, the Hargreeves siblings and Lila are no longer together. Previews for Season 4 show them adjusting to a normal life, something they haven’t experienced before.

5. Reginald and his wife are alive
In The Umbrella Academy, the character Reginald Hargreeves alters time to benefit himself. In the first season, he rescues his spouse Abigail from death as their planet explodes and produces 43 children using marigolds, while also presenting Viktor with Abigail’s violin. The third season unveils that Reginald keeps Abigail’s body stored in a dimly-lit moon chamber, but his motives for this action are not yet clear.
In the revamped universe designed by Reginald, he realizes his personal goals and becomes both wealthy and influential, letting his quirks show without hiding them. This reboot also facilitates Allison’s reunion with her daughter and husband from the 1960s as part of their agreement. In this modified world, Abigail thrives, while Reginald accomplishes his objectives. Simultaneously, Allison too experiences her heart’s desires.
6. Only two members of the Sparrow Academy survived the apocalypse
In the second season of The Umbrella Academy, the Hargreeves siblings find themselves back in their original time to a shocking revelation – Reginald is alive and thriving, having founded a new group called the Sparrow Academy, comprising seven children with supernatural abilities similar to the Umbrellas. As rivalry brews between these two groups, the Sparrows abduct Luther, thinking they’ve captured Marcus instead, who vanished upon encountering the Kugelblitz. The season concludes as usual, leaving us on the edge of our seats.
In Season 3, we encounter the Kugelblitz – a time abnormality caused by the Umbrellas’ reappearance. This anomaly brings about an devastating event, an apocalypse that not only destroys objects but also people, claiming lives of several Sparrow Academy members, including some of its own. Additionally, Harlan plays a role in this destruction. In the end, only Ben and Sloane, two individuals from the Sparrow Academy, survive. They find safety at Hotel Oblivion.

7. Reginald killed Luther before the apocalypse
Reginald discloses that he requires seven individuals to sound seven bells at Hotel Oblivion under the watch of a Guardian. But an assembly of five individuals, consisting of Allison, Lila, Klaus, and Ben, voted against staying for the apocalypse. Reginald slays Luther, who was falsely accused by the Guardian, leaving only four people to ring the bells. He compels the remaining individuals to traverse the tunnel into Hotel Oblivion to carry on with his plan. However, there’s another act of deception yet to unfold before the world meets its end. Eventually, in a fresh timeline at the conclusion of The Umbrella Academy season 3, Luther resurfaces.
8. Reginald tried to kill Klaus
In the third season, Klaus and Reginald form a closer relationship upon discovering that the Sparrows had been medicating Reginald. Later on, Klaus unintentionally kills Stan, but then finds out he can come back to life, thus becoming immortal. This revelation intrigues Reginald who then trains Klaus by repeatedly killing him and bringing him back, which proved helpful during the apocalypse as it enabled Klaus to resurrect faster.
Klaus, who was the latest one to explore the passage leading from Hotel Oblivion, was halted by Reginald, who considered him a potential risk. Abandoned in the apocalypse, Klaus chose to rejoin the world of the living by performing a self-sacrificing act – hurling himself onto the horn of a massive white buffalo. Upon his entry into the afterlife, Klaus encountered Luther and discussed Reginald’s deceit, preparing for a later opportunity to unveil Reginald’s treachery to his kin.
