Delving into the latest season of Cobra Kai, we find it continues the narrative from the iconic Karate Kid films in a surprising and satisfying manner, leaving many viewers wondering how they could pull it off. Let’s take a closer look at the series and determine which characters from Cobra Kai truly embody the spirit of the Karate Kid.
15. Anthony LaRusso
Among the characters, Anthony is one who remains relatively consistent throughout the series “Cobra Kai.” He’s Daniel’s son and provides humor with his witty dialogue, although he doesn’t significantly impact the plot.
Because of his indulgence, he’s failing to meet the standards set by his father, either in terms of character or skills. Instead, he tends to talk arrogantly, which seems more like empty words than any practical use.
14. Demetri Alexopoulos

At Eli’s persuasion, Demetri decides to enroll in the Cobra Kai dojo, but he parts ways shortly afterward because he couldn’t align with the teachings of Cobra Kai.
Demetri is used to be the moral compass of the group, often eschewing violence unless necessary.
Following an encounter with Kreese, Demetri departs from Cobra Kai for a second time, this time joining Miyagi-Do. Tensions between him and his erstwhile closest companion, Hawk, escalate to the point where multiple altercations occur, culminating in Hawk fracturing Demetri’s arm.
13. Kyler Park

As a cinephile, I must say that the character of Kyler, while not necessarily the main focus, proved to be an integral counterpoint throughout the series. This antagonistic figure, embodied by Kyler, served as a formidable adversary for Miguel, ultimately offering a compelling narrative that illustrated the transformative power of martial arts in the lives of various characters. The triumph of Miguel over Kyler wasn’t just a victory on the dojo floor; it was a symbol of hope and inspiration, demonstrating that karate could indeed be a force for change and self-discovery in their lives.
One of Miguel’s first encounters with Johnny serves as the catalyst for Miguel to reach out to Johnny for assistance. Later on, Miguel decides to join Cobra Kai, but his aggression and bullying behavior intensify. Despite this, more proficient fighters from the other dojo consistently defeat him in combat.
12. Eli Moskowitz

Also known as Hawk, Eli is the main character that joins the Cobra Kai dojo after getting bullied.
Troubled by the mindset of the Cobra Kai members, he decides to join the newly formed dojo, which is a blend of Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang schools. His past deeds are not forgotten, and his new allies are determined to retaliate against him.
11. Aisha Robinson

Aisha, who was once plump and scholarly, experiences a remarkable change that turns her into an exceptional student at the Cobra Kai dojo.
Through her relationships with individuals from both martial arts schools, she serves as a peacemaker amidst the feuding groups. However, her connections with Cobra Kai sometimes hinder others’ trust in her.
In the end, her ability to reason with others means she is respected both in and outside the ring.
10. Louie LaRusso Junior

In a different rendering: Bret Ernst plays the role of Daniel LaRusso’s cousin. Although he tends to act on impulse and is sometimes his own downfall, there’s another side to him – an extroverted personality that adds warmth wherever he goes.
Burning Johnny’s vehicle resulted in Daniel terminating his employment, but later on, he was reinstated to his position. The incident definitely had a maturing effect on him. However, his character tends to be domineering and immature, with the exception of when it comes to family matters.
9. Chozen Toguchi

In the series Cobra Kai, Chozen plays a significant yet secondary character, acting as Daniel’s chief adversary in The Karate Kid Part II. During Daniel’s visit to Okinawa, Chozen consistently harasses and torments him.
In the third season of the series, the character Chozen emerges as the master of Miyagi-Do. He makes an appearance when Daniel is attempting to rescue his automobile enterprise by establishing direct contact with certain Japanese vendors.
Although Chozen initially harbored intense hostility towards Daniel, time has gradually mellowed his feelings. Despite feeling profound embarrassment over past wrongdoings against Daniel, Chozen now acknowledges Daniel’s goodness. As a result of their mutual respect for Mr. Miyagi, they have come together to work as a team.
8. John Kreese

In the chronicles of the Karate Kid universe, Kreese emerges as one of the principal adversaries. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he grapples with unspecified issues that make him a focal point of tension and a negative force throughout the storyline.
Ignoring the lessons from his past losses against Mr. Miyagi, Kreese persists in molding his pupils according to the ruthless teaching methods that earned him notoriety and ultimately led to Johnny’s downfall.
After the movie’s dramatic turn of events, he heads back to Cobra Kai with the intention of reclaiming his dojo from Johnny, having escaped the valley.
7. Robby Keene

Similar to Tory, Robby exhibits unpredictable behavior and is also the disowned child of Johnny. However, following his training under Daniel, he evolves over time, yet there are instances where his anger takes control, leading to some regrettable events.
After kicking Miguel off a balcony, making him almost immobilized, Robby shows impulsiveness, frequently charging into scenarios without fully comprehending the circumstances at hand. This headstrong attitude ultimately causes friction with Johnny, leading Robby to enlist under Kreese in Cobra Kai.
Without question, his martial arts skills are undeniable, leading to intense rivalries as the story unfolds. Yet, Robby’s struggles with managing his feelings often lead him into unnecessary conflicts and cause him to respond impulsively rather than remaining composed in difficult situations.
6. Amanda LaRusso

On the series, Amanda – a character often overlooked – plays a crucial role as Daniel’s spouse. She offers valuable counsel and direction that Daniel has been lacking since the demise of Mr. Miyagi.
She serves as a calm and rational influence, often preventing conflicts from escalating and doling out just penalties for misconduct. For instance, she disciplines Sam by grounding him after it’s discovered he was part of an accident involving Johnny’s vehicle.
5. Samantha Larusso

One primary character in Cobra Kai, who’s also Daniel’s daughter, had a troubled martial arts career following an encounter with Tory. Now, she often finds it difficult to defend herself due to panic attacks triggered by the memories of that fight.
In simpler terms, the conflicts among different martial arts schools helped her overcome her fear, thanks to some assistance from Johnny.
As harrowing encounters with injury and brushes with death left me feeling defeated, my love for karate seemed to wane. However, a profound perspective shared by my father, reminding me of the resilience and growth that comes from adversity, sparked my return to the dojo.
In the end, she encounters her competitor Tory during the All-Valley Tournament. Unfortunately, she loses due to the fact that Kreese and Terry Silver paid off the referee.
As a spiritual heir to Daniel, not only due to her similar demeanor but also her proficiency in karate, she is entwined in much dramatic turmoil stemming from the complexities of young love, and the conflicting personalities of those around her who often struggle to handle their problems with maturity.
4. Tory Nichols

As a principal student under the tutelage of the refurbished Cobra Kai dojo’s sensei, Tory, presents a significant threat throughout much of the show, reaching a point where she attempts to murder Samantha.
Unresolved personal conflicts and an immature attitude often result in Tory engaging in a major altercation at school, which ultimately results in her dismissal and a criminal background. This predicament complicates matters since she is the main income earner for her family, making it difficult for her to maintain employment.
Nevertheless, her tendency towards unpredictable actions, aggression, and an unknown past make her character less easy to connect with within the series. Yet, she certainly adds an intriguing factor to each scene where she appears.
3. Daniel LaRusso

In a shift from his earlier days, Daniel now, still cherished by fans, is an older, family-oriented man. He operates an auto dealership in partnership with his kin and has stepped away from karate. However, interactions with Johnny and the reformed antagonist John Krease spark within him the ambition to establish a new dojo called Migagi-Do.
At first, Johnny intended to drive someone away from the town, but after receiving a reprimand from his spouse, he later recognizes the need for self-reflection. Seeking wisdom, he paid a visit to Mr. Miyagi’s grave for advice, and ultimately continued with his training.
Struggles with disagreements at home, academic pressures, and the heritage of Cobra Kai pose challenges for Daniel, yet he taps into teachings from Mr. Miyagi to navigate these difficulties successfully.
2. Miguel Diaz

A neighbor of Johnny and a victim of bullying, Miguel becomes Johnny’s first student.
As a true movie buff, I must admit that sometimes it’s tough to shake off the past. Unfortunately for me, Miguel finds himself slipping back into the harmful Cobra Kai mindset, straining his relationship with Samantha and escalating the rivalry with Johnny’s son, Robby Keane, to an alarming level.
Miguel’s personal development is captivating due to the hidden connections and past events between his mentor, Johnny, and Daniel who leads a competing school, creating numerous issues. Add to that the tumultuous emotions that come with adolescent romance, and you have quite a compelling storyline.
Yet, the impact of Mr. Miyagi and his enduring influence transforms Miguel, making him more compassionate and receptive.
1. Johnny Lawrence

In an unexpected twist for fans familiar with the classic Karate Kid series, Johnny undergoes a remarkable transformation. Formerly cast as the villain, his life subsequently experiences a dramatic downturn following the incidents portrayed in the films.
In time, the Cobra Kai Dojo is once again opened by Johnny, who transforms into a sensei, shaping the future generation with his revised training methods. After enduring tough years marked by alcoholism and wild living, an unexpected meeting with Daniel sparks a rejuvenation in him.
