As an ardent fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting any updates about The Thursday Murder Club, and finally, Netflix has revealed the first tantalizing teaser for this much-anticipated adaptation of Richard Osman’s blockbuster debut novel. Known for his work on classics like Home Alone and the early Harry Potter films, Chris Columbus will be at the helm as director. Mark your calendars, fellow enthusiasts, because we can finally indulge in this murder mystery extravaganza on August 28, right here on Netflix!
The movie features Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie playing roles as four retirees named Elizabeth, Ron, Ibrahim, and Joyce. These seniors enjoy their retired life by investigating unsolved murders within the confines of their retirement community. However, a sudden twist arises when a genuine murder happens right at their doorstep, adding a grave element to their pastime.
The story begins as Elizabeth brings up an old, unsolved 1973 case to her group, establishing the unique blend of oddity and intelligence in their investigations. Surprised, Joyce queries, “Gosh! Isn’t this room typically used for puzzles?” When she finds them discussing the case. Elizabeth responds, “Not on Thursdays,” signifying Joyce’s initiation into this unconventional club.
Initially apprehensive, Joyce quickly warms up to the idea of involvement. “There’s been a murder, an authentic one!” she shares with the group. “Now we have a genuine case on our hands. How thrilling! Of course, may they rest in peace… and all that…

In this version, the screenplay was penned by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote. The movie is being produced by Netflix in collaboration with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, under the supervision of producers Jennifer Todd and Chris Columbus. Osman, Jo Burn, Eleanor Columbus, Holly Bario, and Jeb Brody are serving as executive producers for this murder-mystery project.
Besides the lead actors, the talented lineup includes Naomi Ackie, David Tennant, Daniel Mays, Jonathan Pryce, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Ingrid Oliver, Paul Freeman, Sarah Niles, and Richard E. Grant.
Filming for the movie was carried out from June through September in 2024. This motion picture is adapted from the initial book of Osman’s four-part series titled “The Man Who Died Twice,” which encompasses other books like “The Bullet That Missed” and “The Last Devil to Die.
